In all seriousness though, this is the best part about car ownership. We can do whatever we want to our own car, because as said before, to each his own.

I will most likely stick with the pre-LCI, as I do think the LCI one looks a bit too "ricey", especially since it doesn't even serve a real purpose aside from aesthetics (unlike the M3 that has vents).
What color is your Z4? I think the pre-LCI side lights fit great on a white car, personally.

Cleaned the car this weekend... so here's a better look at the LCI repeaters on black...

I agree, the white blends right in with the sheet metal. My car is Atacama Yellow, and I just can't see the LCI sidemarkers on that color.

But you do bring up a very good point, which is that it is very color/color scheme dependent. For example, I think LCI sidemarkers work very well with Maniac's car and compliments those wheels perfectly (along with all the silver going on). I blacked out all my trims, grille, and have black wheels, so the LCI just won't work.

Put a black or carbon fiber wrap on it first maybe? Hard to say. Where is a photoshop guru?

Didn't even see this until now.

I know it's not going to be a simple LED swap, as the whole design is different (not even the headlight, the AE design itself is different as well). However, my plans to just buy the whole headlight assembly (while not cheap) and plugging it in can't be that hard

In regards to the BMW mechanic saying no... I am very hesitant to believe that. Not saying that I am more knowledgable than they are, but more so the fact that they have an incentive to simply just say, "no, it doesn't fit." Very similar to the 2012+ paddle shifters that the BMW mechanics said you could not retrofit, when in fact you can. I can't imagine the headlight assembly being anymore difficult than just unplug old, plug in new, sell old on eBay, profit.

I won't do this mod, but I do like what I see. I'm wanting the 2014 covered cubby that's in front of the shift lever.

You can have the covered cubby along with the "somker's package" since 2009 . Under the cover you will find an ashtray and a cigarette lighter (instead of the additional outlet under the fusebox). Pretty much useless and wasted space, unless you are a smoker - but obviously the better looking solution. Retrofit is possible, afaik.

Best regards

Mick

I should have taken pic of the black Z4. A girl trying to take home two new chairs sticking out of passenger side, top down of course ( car not her).

Take your cute little cubby chat elsewhere.

Hey guys, just found out mine will be here Thursday, finally! I had two questions though, in the meantime.

1. Did any of you strip any of the wax off, along the leading edge where the 3M tape will be located? If so, what product did you use to strip the wax, for best adhesion?

2. Am I correct in thinking that the new indicators have clips that will clip in? In the OP's opening post, it does appear as though there are 3 metal clips there.

So I'm assuming that between these 3 clips and the 3M adhesive, it's enough to hold the indicator in place....?

Thanks
Dave

No on wax stripping but yes on a thorough clean. It adheres well.

Yes there are clips, just like on the original (well, they're slightly different, but it still has clips).

..as to the last part of your post, yes, they're not going anywhere without a good old shove from the inside, clips depressed and leaving a pile of sticky foam on the paintwork.

If you want full adhesion then its best to strip the wax off which I did with Meths spirits, will stick good and proper then, you can bet someone will try and steal them by pulling them off.

Tim.

Hi Dave, yes it holds quite well. I just wiped the paint with alcohol to remove any dirt and grease. The adhesive is plenty strong.

Thanks TitanTim/Jparnes....I'll try some denatured alcohol on it before affixing the indicators. Thanks again.

Sticky pads won't stop that unfortunately. Chances are with the clips being so strong, they'd break the thing they're trying to remove first.

1. You should strip off the wax, use simple rubbing alcohol or even dawn dishwashing liquid. I prefer rubbing alcohol. This will mean it will not come loose later as the wax melts.

2. There are tabs that simply clip into the place of the oriignal one.

3. Yes the three tabs and the tape will hold it. As a matter of fact most aero kick panels, rear difussers and spoilers are held on with 3M tape (other brands not BMW) alone so I know it will hold up to the wind. DE goes the extra mile to make sure there is no issue and adds clips. 3M tape is very strong and after curing for a few days it gets even stronger. If you ever try to pull off a badge that is taped on you will know what i mean. It is the same tape.

Extra note: There is a tab that will need to be removed from the new assembly (plastic) make sure you cut it/break it off and then file if flat to the surface so that once you adhere it to the vehicle it isnt vibrating and scratching your paint underneath
