I figured as much. BTW, did we talk about my TR6? I did sell it to a guy from Missouri. He flew in just before Christmas and drove it home.

Yes, we did talk about it. But you put it up for sale right after I got the E89. My wife would have killed me if I was looking at another car!

I'm glad you sold it. Were you happy with the deal? I bet you miss her, especially with this warmer weather. But then again, you'll be in your Z Monday!

Well, it sucks you didn't get any resolution to this issue. I was really hoping to hear something productive come out of it...I will take mine in after the snow stops here and hopefully I can replicate the problem for the service guy and post it on here

I feel good about it. The guy that bought her was a real TR6 buff. He already had one and wanted another for his wife. It was real nice car but I have too many and needed to trim down my fleet. I traded a 335 vert and sold the TR6, replaced it with the Z.

What's wrong with the 09 springs? No fuel pump disaster
I have this noise when backing out of the driveway and or coming to a stop slowly. I hear a clunk in the rear. It almost sounds like the trans ingauging or disinguaging. I have nothing in the trunk that could cause it. Getting worried.....only 800 miles on it.

I am getting this noise too exiting my driveway - anyone know what it is?

(Sounds similar to the noise you get when your brake pads bind to the discs after you wash the car)

I discover it also makes the noise when doing a u-turn. Also when going over certain bumps (very occassionally).

Same here, turning to the right out of the drive. If I take it too sharp there is a clunk in the left wheel/tire area. This is the only time I hear it.

I took it to the dealer and they said the clunk was caused by the brake pad moving in the caliper. The sound does sound like it is coming from the right rear wheel.

I agree. So is there anything that can be done about the sound? Not that it bothers me too much.

The dealer said that it was normal. Just to me its strange because it happens when I am moving not braking. It's quite loud.

Random though # 587;
Before you move the car, put it in Sport+, insure the "DSC off" light is lit, then try the same maneuver which causes the clunk. It might be the DSC sensing the different speeds of the rear wheels and starting to activate the "Electronic LSD" with the rear brakes, before it figures out that it is not needed, kinda like pre-tensioning the system.

Hi ChuckB - that is a very clever thought. I must try this.

Tried turning the DSC totally off, but it still makes the noise. Didn't do it for the whole drive then at the end as I was at the entry point to my driveway just going uphill it made it.

Just an update - I discovered that the point at which the clunk noise occurs is when the shock is fully extended - like when backing out of a steep driveway. Any ideas why the shock would make a clunk when it fully extends?

Had EXACTLY this noise for three years.
Once only (per drive-out)
When backing out of drive as car goes over a 3/4" drop in surface.
I assessed it as some mechanical "re-alignment" within chassis.
Never gets worse.
Never went away.
Does NOT happen when moving forward.

I have M-Adaptive suspension....wish I hadn't read this thread, as I wasn't concerned before now!

There is a more recent thread with others with this same issue (I am the OP)... I haven't seen this being posted by anyone with a 2012 though...

Have you guys with the problem considered that it might not be drive chain/suspension but to do with flexing in the roof frame within the boot area ( I accept that the roof may well be up) but there are many different frames/mechanisms that just sit there but do flex?????

My car has 10K on the clock and is 21months old, and just recently I went around the car front and rear just check torque-ing a number of bolts. My car is exhibiting some noises behind the driver (right-hand drive) which I will get attended to, but on every car I have owned I have gone over as many bolts(different sizes and types) just to check..... from this approach I have always had a taught car even at 80k miles....... Worth a thought??????

Check your rear sway bar bushes - they could have move out of place or need replacing.
