update navigation on 2009 Z4 E89

I bought 4 CD's to update my navigation system. They are part
01990037287 "Road Map North America Premium2017-1". I've been reading some of older posts and they say I need a FSC code before I can install the CD disc's? Where can I get the FSC code and what are the steps to install the update?
Thanks

Be careful with the DVD update, I did mine once successfully to 2020 map, tried again with 2023 maps and it failed. Later I found out that the DVD drives can screw up when they get old. And you don't need to pay for an FSC code, software exists.

I now have a FSC code and my four "North America Premium 2017-1" CD disks. Can anyone tell me what my next step is to load the disks?
Just sure where to start.
thanks

OP, AnubisZed on the UK site had a map update video that didn't involve CDs or FSC. I did. And if I can, everybody can. It was with via the USB port, though.

That procedure assumes usb support for maps which early E89s didn’t have and need to be updated to support USB..and…it uses a FSC generator to create a FSC code..so it’s not FSC free..

If USB support is present you see this tick mark..

That's where the pic above comes from, no tick, no USB update.
My car is 2014 build, no tick and no firmware update available. In fact my dealer website lists no map update for CIC at all. So, 2020 map will remain.

I do have an MMI installed so no problem.

Hi guys, thought I'd throw my findings in here.

Firstly, the updated versions of CIC (iDrive) were around 2011, so a 2014 Z "should" have the tick and should be able to have an updated map (latest version is 2024-1).
The last Soiftware update (Multimedia and Bluetooth) was in 2013 (as this coincided with the 3 series going from E9* to F3* so the only E series CIC left was for the E89 and BMW decided not to do any other updates for it).
Now it's the Firmware that makes the difference with the Maps. A minimum of C13 is required, with, I think, the latest being C16. Firmware C13 also gives you the ability to use a Combox for music streaming as well.

And yes that's my video above, and, as stated above, you still need to generate an FSC (software is linked in the video description). Alas I can't give out a link to the latest map version as a download as all links keep getting taken down.
