Anyone has any idea on whether BMW started to buy used E70 X5 between 2006 and 2009?

I remember that those E70 are prohibited from sold by BMW in the US due to airbag issue.... So BMW wont buy the car from you.

Talk about destroying value in our cars...

They are focusing on cars in more humid climates...apparently the humidity exacerbates the issue

Sold my E46 330Ci to Carmax. They can't sell it with that active recall so they sent it to auction. Two months later I saw a used car dealer sell it off.

My used E90 M3 bought in August at the BMW dealer already had the airbag swap done prior to my purchase.

Really curious as to how and when BMW is going to get this recall done.

To put it into perspective, it's almost been a full year since the recall affecting 840,000 BMWs (E7x, E8x, E9x) and I've still yet to see any of these recall procedures performed.
I've been calling my SA weekly regarding the E70. Online it says there is a "Final Remedy Available" November 2016. Then in the SA's system they can't order the parts and have zero visibility to when this will be fixed.

This Zone A vs Zone B deployment is aggravating also.

It's been far too long for the "supply chain" to get this resolved. Every day that goes by is another reason I may not decide BMW in the future.
Blame TAKATA bro.. not BMW.

Name the manufacturer of a vehicle you want to buy that that doesn't have takata airbags in it being recalled.

I'll wait ...

I'm told by my local BMW dealer that BMW is now manufacturing their own airbags. They just replaced the airbag in my 2003 M5. BMW does seem to be working through this, albeit slowly. It is a major issue and will take time.

Guess I was fortunate. Both the passenger and driver side airbags have been replaced on my 2005 e46. It took nearly 3 years...but made sure the parts department at my local dealer knew I was needing these and they actively called me when the parts arrived.

Stop drinking the bmw coolade, takada isnt going to remove the airbag on your bmw, bmw is. Manufacturers have responsibility for ever single part that goes in their vehicle. These parts can kill people, lack of proper notice and effective recall is a serious deal

This not a BMW issue. It's a supplier issue. I work for BMW and been advised that for most vehicles the part is STILL in development. We're only recently been getting shipments for E46 non-sport steering wheel.

This recall will take years to fulfill. The dealers want to fix the cars--trust me. We get paid to turn wrenches.

This has NOTHING to do with BMW. It's a supplier issue. Some models don't even have a part developed yet by Takata.

You can switch brands in protest but 19 other car manufacturers are in the same boat.

BMW, as far as I'm aware, was in the long process of validation of a replacement inflators when there was a validation issue which caused delays to the entire roll out.

This is a very complex development because the propellant used by Takata combusts so differently from competitors yet you have a full validation to meet the same requirements for performance plus all of the class A approvals, etc.

I don't know about the E46 replacements, but I know the E9X replacements are being developed with a different inflator provider. Most quick replacement recalls were "like for like" resetting the clock with an inflator that would have to be replaced again later. Plus there's the regional prioritization based on the data.

Though as we're coming up on 10 years vehicle age it's becoming more and more pressing.

Get an E90 specific hub from Momo - Turner sells and price matched it (to ECS) and was around $92. Comes with airbag resistor so no fault codes.

Buy any wheel you want for your needs (some wheels may need a hub to wheel adapter plate for bolt pattern), OMP, MOMO, Sparco, etc. Don't buy the street style stuff, they flex way too much - around 250-300.

Was pretty easy to install.
