Gauge cluster LEDs

Anyone ever tinker with these? I didn't know it was possible but after seeing the results I'm convinced that this is something I'd like to have done.

Anyone know about this?

I like the M3 look...however it's not going to match with rest of the lights....

I saw this on another thread, the one where that chap has modified his e89 to death and it looks amazing. I too would like this done but of course your car would be off the road while it is sent away, many many tiny leds are replaced on the PCB and it comes back then fitted. Not something I'm willing to do as I don't have a second car.

I also think there is a thread on the E82 forum where someone did this. They also adding a decal to the speedo. might have been on the E89 forum. I dunno but i did see it.

The white looks good, not a fan of the dull orange.

I've never done it myself but wanted to do it prior to getting the car and read through DYIs. It's actually quite simple.

The hardest part is unscrewing the cluster and taking it out. Once you pull the thing out, you literally just solder out the old LEDs and replace them with the LED color of your choice.... can't seem to find the thread with the DIY though.

Changing that monochrome screen though is harder, and I don't think that is possible with just an LED change - you have to change the filter. It's not a big deal keeping it orange though, as it matches the rest of the car (like the center console that is orange). However, then the white or whatever color you choose to use for the gauge wouldn't really match all the orange going on in the car, so I decided not to do the mod.

Ah, here it is: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=503185
