BlueZ4AZ I am sorry that you were offended by my comment. My intent was to point out the fact that I feel that the BMW is a better built car than my Corvette. How does that upset you? This is a forum and opinions are allowed as far as I know. I post on several forums. I liked my Z3 because it was a small nimbal sports car. If you will read the major car mags, you will see that the current Z4 is described as being overpriced for todays market and there are complaints about it's larger size. The Z4 looks great and the build quality is top notch. It's very clear that BMW is moving toward the Z2 for good reasons. Price and size. And I would post my earlier comment on the C6 forum. That's what forums are about. Opinions and sharing information. You have had several comments on here about build quality and creaks in the new Z4. I didn't say anything negative about the Z4's build quality. I'll check and see if we have a Z2 section on this blog. Have a nice day.

Offended?
Neither myself or the hundreds of others are offended by BS. It travels fast but does not offend.

I've never posted about having any Z4 creaks because I've never had any.

Had 62 nice days in a row and am ready for a mediocre day, but thanks anyway.

You do realize the vast majority of people on this forum are Z4 owners, who did not feel the car was overpriced, so we.....actually went out and bought the sports car? Imagine that. The point being your BS is actually scoffed at here.

Personally, I think Castle Rock is a beautiful town, but I was told others feel the crime rate there is way too high and the real estate is overpriced. They have advised not to move there, for good reason.

Is there a Castle Rock, CO blog?

BlueZ4AZ I am well aware of the fact that most posters on this forum own Z4's. That's why I posted here. I subscribe to most of the monthly car mags and one of them just this month ended their article with the comment that if BMW wishes to sell Z4's in any quanity, a major price deduction will be needed. It was in either Motor Trend,, Automobile, or Car & Driver. They commented that the MB SLK for 2012 and the current BMW Z4 were designed and brought to market before the current crisis. For the record, my opinion is that the Corvette Z06 and ZR1 and the Z4 35i are overpriced. I think BMW is right on target with the Z2 and hope it is announced very soon. Castle Rock sure doesn't have a crime problem. And real estate prices didn't rise and fall in the basement like in AZ. No wonder you are grumpy. There is a nationwide web site that tracks crime. Just for fun (I know we are off topic) go to CRGov.com/crimereports. Type in any address in Castle Rock and you will be able to tour the town and see current police reports. For fun type in 100 Perry Street which is the police department. Let's do the same in Chandler and see how we compare. Make no mistake about it, I am a BMW fan and my intention here is to learn about the current Z4 and rumored Z2 so that I can be knowledgable when it comes time to get rid of the Corvette and buy a BMW roadster again. That is my goal.

BlueZ4AZ---I just noticed that twice in your comment number 24 you refer to my comments as BS. Would you please explain this attitude. My comments were opinions based on ownership of BMW and Corvettes automobiles just like you. Also, where are the comments from the hundreds of those you claim to represent on this forum/thread. No BS from me, just opinion and facts.

We built our new home after the prices here in AZ dropped. Perfect timing, and we are anything but "grumpy" about it. ...but thanks for your concern.

So, you've scoffed at someone after they annonced what was nothing more than a bunch of BS about your town??!

Well, there ya go, now you know how we (Z4 owners) all feel about your BS along with the magazine writer's highly opinionated article you paraphrased.

Picture yourself at a car show in a group with about 100+ e89 owners, and you said all the same stuff to our faces.
We'd all be thinking to ourselves either:
1) Yaaaaawn. When is this know it all going to zip it.
2) Not a sports car? ! What?
3) Wow that takes a lot of nerve
4) I've heard enough of this. I think I'll leave now to go visit the Ford kiosk
5) I'd like to tell this guy to zip it, but I'm sure someone else will.
6) That's enough. "Hey you, shut up!!"

I'm just the one guy that happened to be the one to tell you to zip it. That's all.

Forgot my medication?? That's just too funny. I got a good chuckle out of that one.

Blue, I feel somewhat offended that you claim to speak for all Z4 owners (which includes me). I have no problem with other people voicing their opinions, even when I strongly disagree.

And before you get all over me for butting in, remember that you were the one that just included me.

I have read many of your posts and you make a valuable contribution, I just wish you wouldn't get riled up so easily

And for the record, I love my E89 and have absolutely no regrets.

Dear Mr. BlueZ4AZ You were the one who made remarks about my town and I don't think I responded with any BS what so ever about Castle Rock. The write up in the magazine hit the nail right on the head as far as I am concerned, and I agree with that article. As I said, I think the top Corvette models fall into the same catagory. Bad timing. Take a minute Mr. BlueZ4AZ and go to the web site I gave you. Look at the crime reports in Chandler compared to Castle Rock. You have way more crime reports than Castle Rock. Way more crime. We do have more snow than you do and will admit it. That's reason enough for you to not move here. In fact, please spread the word that Castle Rock is buried in snow most of the year.

I see that you have 909 posts on this forum. I am sure you have contributed some good information. Your attitude also tells me that you think you are king of the forum. If my comments have been that far out of line, I would like to know it and would appreciate a heads up from some other bloggers other than you. Where are the hundreds of people I have offended? Read my originall post once more, and tell me why you responded the way you did to a brand new poster?

SANguru That must be the problem. Very strange attitude and responses by a long time poster who you would think would try and set an example when responding to a first time poster. You can tell that he used to have a Corvette. Many on the Corvette Forum are like him.

Good morning fellow bloggers. Let me share with you the fact that BMW is not alone when it comes to creeking issues. My 09 C6 Corvette's top creeks. Go to the Corvette Forum and you will see many comments about this problem which has been an issue for years. My everyday driver is a 2010 Cadillac CTS Premium AWD. Again, go to the Cadilliac forum and click on 2008 to present CTS. Many cpmplaints about creeking and wind noise around the sum roof. My dash (instruments) creek as does the trim arounf the sunroof. My wife's 2007 Lexus GS350 is a quiet as a church. Not a squeek or rattle ever. I think we are all in the same boat as auto manufactures are cutting cost and reducing weight to improve milage. BMW is not exempt to this problem. Better than most, I am sure, but not completely free of this problem. I have given up on my Corvette and my CTS as far as creeking. The creeking top on my Vette is the worst.

The Z3 and previous generation Z4 were good cars for what they were.

BMW's aim was to bring the Z4 upscale and it is priced competitively with it's one and only true competitor, the SLK (old and new model).

Higher quality and more upscale go together with higher price, meaning it was never meant to be a volume seller.

BMW may add the Z2 to the roadster lineup along with the Z4 to replace what was the Z3, but will need to cut costs in several areas to keep the price lower than the Z4.

Did BMW state that the Z2 was replacing the Z4? They will be in 2 separate car markets/price points.

35idriver. The Z2 will be an addition to the BMW lineup as I understand and is not intended to replace the Z4. I agree with you on that. I also agree that an upgraded Z4 will sell for more than the original Z4 or a Z3 and it should. No question about it. I think BMW will do well with a Z2. They did very well with the Z3. Somewhere I read recently that BMW only sold 29xx Z4's ytd in North America. That's not much of a dent in the sports car market. The new SLK isn't even in the running with me.

Hi I have a similar problem but my squeaking noise comes from the front center vent. I should take it out, put masking tape and put it back on. Do you know how to take the center vent out without breaking anything? Thanks!

Thought I'd give an update to this frustrating issue. By the time I finally took the car in, a crackling rattle also started from the top somewhere behind the passenger seat. Very persistent and very noticeable when driving over even the slightest road imperfections.

1st dealer visit: Demonstrated to the CSR how simply touching the dash trim around the climate controls created creaks, and that these exact sounds occured after driving over bumps. Also stated the top rattled from window behind passenger seat. Left my car and waited two days. Got a call back that everything was fixed and that they had applied "trim grease" to both the top and the dash. Drove car off and of course all squeaks and rattles were still there, not to mention I had some sort of nasty grease on my wood trim.

Totally bombed both the CSR and the work performed by the dealership on the BMW customer satisfaction survey. Got a call back from their client service specialist wanting to make things right and asked me to bring my car back in. Said this time work would be verified by the foreman.

So Visit #2: kept the car for two days, and they called back to say they put felt tape under dash trim and all places in top, as well as used a heavier duty grease on the top. Also said the CID was not installed properly at factory and was corrected. Ok, didn't ever hear rattles from CID but whatever.. Said car had been driven by foreman and was rattle free..

Picked up car. Immediately pressed on dash trim, same creaks. Drove car off and of course dash creaks and top rattles.. Even worse. In the course of "fixing" the CID, guess they had to remove the plastic air vent area, which now creaks but did not before. The top still makes a persistent snapping/tapping noise over any small crack/bump. Oh yeah, now my TPM comes on every few days for my right rear tire, even though the pressure is fine and I reset the TPM.

So annoying/disheartening.. I'm afraid to take it back again for fear they're just going to mess things up more.

Garage List
2010 BMW Z4 35is  [10.00]
2013 BMW X5 30d  [0.00]
Alas, similar history, but a slightly better outcome.

I took mine back almost every couple of months over the first 15 months for the same types of rattles.

In the end I ditched the run flats, then asked them to give it one last try.
After 3000kms I only have minor rattles and squeaks now, and only over noticable bumps instead of the old trigger of just driving on a rough surface.
It has deteriorated a little, but nothing like it did in the first 100km after each "fix" when I was shod with the dreaded RFT.

I have the 19" wheels, and with the RFT there was no where for the shocks and vibrations to go except into the roof and trims to cause rattles and creaks.
My intent here is to give you some hope.

i blame to the harsh runflats too. they are so hard i can barely feel if there's any air in the tire. been thinking about swapping them out for a set of normal tires. don't know if they would help to quiet the interior down...
