target weight of 3300lb and drivetrain from the m3/m4 sounds good to me.

Too bad Toyota is the one that will get the fixed roof car.

I'm confused, the article stated that the Z4 was based on the 3-series'...I thought that our platform was unique to our cars?

A big "hell no" to that. Fortunately, it will never see production in that form.

I think there is a LOT of shared parts... there is a PDF floating around these forums that highlights it

There are very few shared parts, more that are existing but modified and mostly all new parts.

The e89 was built ground up. It's the e85 platform that was 3 series based.

The front brake duct openings are direct knock off and new brand family direction on the new (ugly) 3 and 4 series front end brake ducts. The whole front bumper looks clunky in my opinion.

I do however like the side marker indents. It beats the white blobs side markers on the 09-13 Z's. The 14 LCI side are a big improvement, which I have installed, but I would like this look even more.

Sadly, I can't say that much of what I saw or read in those two articles excites me. Both look over styled to me. And I'd clearly have to drive one to make a fair assessment, but a four cylinder just doesn't interest me. There's a lot of time before it is a reality though.

I like this rendering. I don't remember where I got this pic this week.

It is of course just a random render and has no real substance.

All of this we really dont need a speculation thread every month. There wont even be a test car on the streets for another 2 years at the earliest.

the body panels are mostly new but on page 40 a lot of the suspension is "common parts E87 and E90" or "modified components (developed with minimum expenditure)"

And we all know the N54 + DCT are shared with E90 and other cars

I'm referring to the platform/chassis? itself though, not the various other parts.

That's argument for argument sake. The car is for the most part entirely new and not shared components. So you're disappointed they didn't do entirely new engines just for the low volume e89?

Which BMW is entirely 100% new parts only used on that model? None.

I just wanted to share a doc that's been floating around the forums, since we were discussing what is and isn't shared for the e89

How you or I interpret the info doesn't really matter, as you pointed out.

Actually I would have liked the sharing to go further and to have the 335is/1m engine cooling and the optional suspension and exhaust parts that the 3 series has had access to for some time.

Uh, a lot of the suspension parts from the e92 M3 that have been used on the 335 are very usable on the E89: http://e89.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=879624
