Urgent -- help!!! smartTop installation -- malfunction

I followed the instruction to install smart top on my 2013 z4 35i
after finish installation, it wont close or open the top(top stays the position as it was -- half opened)

and the screen says "top malfunction, cant detect position and lock" something.
....

and I tried to removed the smarttop module, it's still not working !!! same message!!!

please help what should i do now?
can I call bmw, and if so can I tell them it's because I'm installing the smartTop?


pls help ...... >.<

You can't tell them about the module. Just get breakdown out, or disconnect the battery, leave it for 10 mins. Then try it...

can I have the smartTop on but disable it then toll the car to dealership?
dont wanna fix it and came back install it and happen agian.

I think the module is working , cause I tried the windows, locks function, works as programmed..

Would they need to open the hardtop control module to get it sorted out ..?

relax...same exact thing happened to me... you probably didn't fully engage the connectors... the lever that's on the connector... do not actuate it to MAKE the connection... its only used to disconnect it... so you need to fully open the lever... then push the connector FULLY together such that the lever moves into its closed position... once I did that... everything worked as it should.

make sure you can see the LED blink on the module... once a second or so pulse, I think confirms everything is connected and working properly.

not as simple as your situation ...
i've removed the module but it's still the same...
just towed to my dealership.. have to wait till next week... no one's working from the service dept....

soooo sad.....

sooo upset now... only enjoyed her for like 2 days...
anyone has similar experience? is it gonna be a easy fix for the dealership?

I bet it is a censor in the trunk. When i was looking for mine i test drove one and cycled the top down and it wouldnt come back up. the dealer said it was a sensor and they had to order one. I obviously didnt buy that vehicle but nonetheless. i think you'll be ok.

Did you close your trunk partition? If memory serves, if you don't close the trunk partition when the top is half open, the top won't open or close.

Know it's tough Gentle, especially only after 2 days....really feel for you. Maybe go to the dealer today and try and sort it yourself....worth a try
