not the factory system, although I have seen (online) some concept iDrive systems with Internet showing speed cams in Euro. I think garmin/tomtom can do it. good luck

detection ? not really but if you've the bmw dvd you can alter the iso image and put a custom tpd directory on it, load it in your system and see the cams as POI. details on the gpsunderground website

I thought you couldn't update the Z4 nav via dvd. Was told by my dealer it was download only no dvd involved.
Still waiting for a update to the sat nav though!! Version 2008 02 is installed.

according to my manual , an update should be done by DVD.
But the installing of POI (speedcams) would be nice by USB stick like the beamer:

Manual of X5 (the car itself doesn't show the option mentioned)

after the first update maybe ....

You might search the X6 forum bc I read a post on it over there 2 or 3 months ago. I've been looking for myself and if I find it I'll post the link.

There a website (and it may be gpsunderground.com, just don't remember) where you can get traffic cam poi's for the US and there's discussion on how it's loaded into the on-board system as well. Sorry can't be more help.
