if you have the upgraded audio system, it contains a 4" midrange speaker and a 1" tweeter. it's purpose is to be your center channel speaker.

I've got no sound at all coming out...this is why i was struggling!! If i have standard stereo system should there still be speakers in there?? How does the cover come off so i can look inside??
If there aren't speakers in there with the standard system, is it possible to fit these after?

Cheers.

If you have the basic 6 speaker system, you won't have a speaker inside. No idea if it pre-wired or not. I hope it is. Can anyone confirm?

i do not know. however, i doubt it. if you look between the two seats around shoulder level, there is a plastic access cover (not the ski through thing). If you remove it, you'll see a "slot" for the rear center channel 4" speaker and 1" tweeter. However, with the basic audio system, there is nothing there and there are no wires there either. So i would assume there are no wires for the front center channel speaker either (again if you have the basic audio system).

Thanks for your input Mike. I remember you had problem tapping your subwoofer to the back speakers. How did it go? What did you end up doing? A review perhaps?
I'm looking to do an upgrade on the basic system. I'm no expert in this field, so I'd like to see what others have come up with before I start messing around.

i tapped the speakers in the footwell and fed them to the subwoofers amplifier in the trunk. the 10" subwoofer coupled with rainbow slc 325 kicks (3-way) made a difference that really you would not believe until you heard.

So tapping the speakers in the footwell is key then. I'm thinking of just adding an external amp and then changing out the speakers. If still not satisfied I'll look into getting a sub.
What about for the tweeters? prewired?

nope, no pre-wire for the tweeters. my 3 ways naturally came with a crossover. so i took two of my own speakers wires from the footwell through the door (one for the 4" midrange and one for the 1" tweeter). the crossover i put in the footwell near the 6.5" woofer. i got the "kick bass" version of the rainbows, their frequency only goes down to 80hz, so a subwoofer is required. the non-kick versions do not require you to get a subwoofer.

i have a new amp to drive those front speakers, but have not yet fully installed. i can tell you that those rainbows, without the new amp feeding them, is still better than anything i have in my other cars. it is going to be interesting to see what difference the amp makes.
