Let's compare some Gas Consumption
When it comes to gas consumption, I'm quite anal and like to keep track of all the stats with all my cars. Let's see some numbers from you guys.
2009 Z4 35i DCT (see mods on bottom) Best Fuel Consumption: 9.45km/L (22.23mpg) Average Fuel Consumption: 8.81km/L (20.73mpg) Worst Fuel Consumption: 7.83km/L (18.42mpg) Total Mileage Logged: 10620km (got it used, total is 23000km now) Total Fuel: 1252L (330gal) Total Fill Ups: 26 Average L/ Fill Up: 48.15L (12 gal) Average range/Fill Up: 424km (263miles) I record every fill up with an app.

I think I'm around 18 mpg. Mostly city. I tend to have to fill up every 200 miles or less.

I took a trip during the summer of 2010 in my then sDrive Z4 35i 2009 and my average fuel consumption was around 8.5 to 9.5 L/100 KM. That was my average for the cross country trip and back home (Toronto - LA and back home to Toronto)
Here I was just after stopping on Route 66 to look at the biggest chair I ever saw BTW. Fuel consumption should not be a concern when driving this kind of car, I keep an eye on it mainly to keep an eye on the engine healt and my driving style

I think I saw > 30 mpg (for a short period of time) while driving on the highway, using the cruise control. I only had it on for a short period of time, though. Too much fun engaging in the drive (with the Z4 anyway) and accelerating / breaking myself.
The car definitely runs lowest mpg numbers when driving > 60 miles / hour (not quite sure what the upper limit is |

Few short trips on streets - ~23 MPG
Freeway - ~28 MPG I don't drive aggressively on the streets - freeways situational (don't want to incriminate myself...)

Do all of you guys base your findings with the fuel consumption from the car display? I find the display to give out consistently higher returns when comparing to my phone app, usually by 1km/L (2.35MPG), which is a whole 10% off. Anyone else log their trips and fill ups with an app?

Anyway, What's important is to identify significant changes in mpg between fill ups, not necessarily what method you're assessing it with.

Read about the significantly higher MPGs compared to EPA on the forum before getting the car... after 1,500 miles and I only got over 19 MPG once.. just long enough for it to quickly drop back down to 18s. I don't think I have an extremely hard foot either, hmm. Maybe still needs to break in?

With all that adrenaline running after the gym, I would say 17 is approaching Prius territory
Maybe try going really fast, then let go of the gas and let it coast. It always makes me feel better when I see my MPG at 99.99 |
