M sport bumper retrofit paint help!

Hey guys, i just have a few questions, as i am going to upgrade my car to M sport front and rear in a few days.

*How many layers of base coat and clear coat should i expect or need?
*I have sapphire black, would the bodyshop be able to recognise this with their machine or should i call up bmw for the code.
*Most importantly, will this blend? or would it look out of place?

THANK YOU

The shop definitely needs the paint code. don't let them guess. As far as matching, it'll probably look fine, but factory painting and aftermarket painting can show a discrepancy. Get them to spray a section of the front or rear and take a look before they do the whole thing.

GoodDay!

In our part of the world we simply ask the BMW Dealership "Who do you use for body work on BMW's"?

They then tell us and when we go to the BMW Certified body shop they know since they are trained and certified for this work by BMW.

Hope this helps.

PS. If there is no certified body shop then the BMW salesman that sold you the car should get you the answer.

I would agree with this even in the US. I had my 335 hit twice and had the rear qtr and the trunk fixed and repainted. No way you could tell a difference. However, this was paid by insurance so the BMW certified place may be more expensive if your paying out of pocket.

It may be more expensive, then our car deserves nothing less then be restored to the original condition. To be penny wise here is not an option as we all know very well.

I made the M Sport bumper upgrade and my paint shop matched our black sapphire car exactly. They pulled the BMW paint code.

Thank you all for the time to reply my question,
I hav. Called the BMW specialist, though here in Australia. They are Charging me approximately 1500 for each bumper painted and fitted. Whilst the local insurance approved body shop charges 1000 for Everything.

Just a question for those who have done this mod, did you all go to a certified BMW body shop? And how many clear coats did you receive?

In my experience, I've never gone to the dealer for paint jobs. Maybe it's because I bought all my kits from private sellers. Respectable paint shops always check the color code (it's located inside the eng compartment or the trunk) and the paint is mixed according to formulas. It's never the exact shade as factory (and factory colors are different from lots to lots.) Also depends on the age of your car, the color (lighter color, harder to match) metallic or not (metallic never really matches.) and the same paint on fiberglass and metal body panels never look the same. blah blah blah.. :P oh.. and paint needs time to 'cure' to see the true color.

Sorry about that.
My point is, find a respectable place. Your dealer also sends cars to these places, so it's your call I guess. And what I mentioned about colors never matching, it's only you who'll notice because it's your baby. So try not to lose sleep over it.

Am I fuzzy much?
(again, I don't know how these things are done where you live.)
