DCT tpyes cars with no Auto mode
I was wondering are there any cars that are not true manuals that require you to always change gears?
I wasnt able to find much information on of something like that exists. Do any cars without clutch pedals have no auto mode? themush |

I believe some race cars are probably in the category of having manumatics ... they won't shift for you (don't have a true automatic mode). Don't know about street legal cars. |

The closest I've personally come across was a Caterham with a "crashbox" (no synchros in the gearbox) that was meant for shifting without using the clutch pedal once the car was moving
After 30s on Google, I found this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semi-au...c_transmission Seems like there are many examples of what you were wondering about many decades ago and in current era cars have the fully automatic option |

FWIW, I have never driven my DCT 35is in auto mode. Moving the gear selector over to Manual and seeing "1" on the dash is part of my "I'm ready to move the car" routine, just as depressing the clutch and shifting into 1st gear was for the previous 16 years of driving. Likewise, moving the selector into "Neutral" when called for hasn't changed either. Some habits die hard .

There is almost no reason to use the auto mode, since the dedicated + and - paddles are so much fun and so easy to use
I will admit though, that I have used the auto function.. such as yesterday... when my 1.5hr cruise home became a 4.5hr slog through Socal traffic.... |

for fair balance.. if I look at my OVERALL driving (F30 + E89) I am probably at 39% automatic model usage, since I am in auto mode 99% of the time in the 3 (passengers in the car, commuting, hauling stuff, etc).. (and I drive it about 40% of the time)..
If the Z is your only car, it totally makes sense that you use the auto mode much more |
