Make steering wheel thicker and wrap in alcantara

Hello,

I was inspired by our Thai forum member's rewrap of the steering wheel (herehttp://e89.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=610899).

I was thinking about doing the same, making the wheel thicker, but have the steering wheel wrapped in alcantara with white contract stitching (I have the white extended Kansas leather).

Does anybody know a shop or place that can do that? I have a heated steering wheel, so that may add a bit of complication.

Thanks!

The process of thickening use 2-3 mm thick of padding foam, I afraid the heat may not go through.
One of our member asked me to get the tailored leather, ship to him and stitch by himself. I am asking this shop to do this and will supply all the thread needed. Difficult part is the stitching if you brave enough to remove the old leather, a irreversible process.
Material: Full grain leather, Alcantara is also possible
if you look at the gear boot, I changed the small piece of leather to dark gray alcantara with light gray stitches to match the performance gear knob

Interesting! Do you have the cut pattern or can you get it? I am not sure about the heating, but I would think that it shouldn't be a huge problem. The heating is actually pretty strong...

The pattern is the old leather that was removed, they can tailor a new one with thicken grip per order

From BMW performance online, stated **Vehicles with heated steering wheel function will have this function disabled for Alcantara steering wheel
