Just got the new 35is back from our ED

We dropped off our Alpine White with Walnut interior 35is at the airport on 16 June and the dealer called us on 4 August to pick her up. We had plans to go to our friend's BBQ and the dealership was along the way, so we said sure, we'll stop by and pick her up

We had our first 90 degree F day in 2 years, so what fun it was driving with the top down, even at 11pm. I sure do love the exhaust. I didn't have any time to play around with her as we were headed to Napa early Sunday. But, we got home tonight and modifying the factory coding options wasthe first thing on my list.

Now she has:
1) digital speedometer, which also reads the accurate speed, not the 6% over
2) folding mirrors with the FOB
3) no more Nav warning
4) no more seatbelt nag for driver or passenger
5) windshield wiper will complete it's full motion when we turn the car off

I just might install the little ESS thingamagiggy by the end of this week

I posted this http://e89.zpost.com/forums/showpost...2&postcount=21
in the thread asking for all the Z4 love

I did all the coding. It took all of 20 minutes. I doubt the dealer would do most of this, especially the seat belt and Idrive nag disable.

Come Fall, I will code the ALL function for the HVAC to REST. That way the wife can keep interior a bit warmer for those short trips into Nordstroms...

PMd you guys back. Happy to help if I can. I was expecting a much longer wait. One boat left 3 days after we dropped off in Munchen. We just missed her and had to wait 2 weeks. That would have been a 6 week (tops) return...

Can I have a coding PM too please?

OR can we disclose the coding secrets to the whole forum?

What tools do we need?
(I am sure I can borrow the coding tools off one of my local bretheren if I know waht to ask for)

The hardest part of coding is downloading all the right software. These are HUGE files, so you need something like usenet or other deal. Basic zip programs like WinZip will not cut it. Many are RAR files for those who know what those are. I actually don't have a clue what they stand for.

Then make sure you buy the proper cable. When you browse through the coding section in the 3-series forum, you can read post ater post about people asking, is this the right cable? What about this one, it's $20 cheaper. Jeebus, just buy the right cable and don't screw around. If you have everything right, but the wrong cable, you will kill your cat or dog.

And, if using Windows Virtual PC so you can run 32-bit crap, you need to activate the OBDII cable using the menu option at the top of the screen. I forgot about that several times and it took weeks to get my hair back.

Start here.

It even has an excel page that lists all the coding options and codes to change. It's only like 4,700 posts, but the beginning has a DIY. However, the software listed in the DIY is very old. You'l need to search around alittle for the most updated software. I bet there is a thread about recent software. The programs include NCSExpert, Ediabas, and INPA. I'm am far from computer literate and it took me bout 3 weeks to get it all figured out. I actually had to dump everything and start downloading all over again.

Here's a few threads where I worked through issues out loud. Might help you out if you try it.

I haven't bothered with upgrading my software for a few months, but this might be really helpful.
