You should really disable it or let the tech know or you may end up with a firmware update that is not compatible and have to go through the same thing I did.
Got the car back today. Everything seems to work fine. Lost a few personal settings in the upgrade but my music collection is still there and I was able to reload the CMT software for the roof without problem.
The recall was just a software upgrade (no new pump) and the car feels the same as before.
The new software shows as some very minor display changes.

I brought my car in on Monday for an oil change and was told about the recalls for the HPFP and the software updating. I told the service advisor that I really did not want to have the recalls done at this time because I have had no issues with the car and that I heard that fuel pumps were being replaced a second and third time. He assured me that the 2011 HPFP has had no issues once replaced. I agreed to have the work done. Now I am being told that the software update failed twice and they called BMW and are on the third try. I was told yesterday that hopefully it would be ready mid to late morning today. It is 2:30 and still no word.

I should have went with my gut feeling not to have the work done. I hope the car feels the same when and if I get it back.

I took my car in for another update and now my iPhone works! Previously it stated "reading..."

Also squeaking noise from the rear was from a bushing by the shock. They replaced it but two weeks to do so as it had to be ordered.

My hpfp recall also took 1.5 week.

I finally got my car back after four days in for the HPFP/software update. The car seems to be as good as new. I don't know if it is my imagination, but it seems faster.
