i kind of wish they sped up the development process a bit. i'm so ready to get a new a car and am kind of resistant to go with the current Z4 if it's going to be replaced in a year or 2.

I hope there is an option for a ragtop. I hate to see the Z line go hardtop unless the roof is some super lightweight carbon fiber.

And so it slowly sheds its armor. That front is looking pretty mean -- kinda CS-ish. Trunk lid design looks similar to Z4. As for proportions, I like how the rear is a bit longer, which balances it out better. I guess they would need to lengthen it in order hold that hardtop AND have adequate cargo room.

zoomzoomers, is this looking more like the prototype that you saw in person?

If this one is being built in Germany, you may not see this in the US market as soon as in Europe...That could mean Spring 2009....earliest fall 2008, a year away.

So, it seems to me that we are seeing these shots because BMW wants us to see the shots so they can gauge how the market is reacting to them. Otherwise, we wouldn't be seeing these. It would not surprise me at all if these shots were taken by a BMW photographer.

I know the trunk looks bigger than the current Z4, but I still don't think there is enough room for a hard top in there. You can see that the plastic armor on the car continues to the roof as well. That means there could be a hard top under that or they could just be covering the rag top up to keep everyone guessing. I think the hardtop would be cool, but I think that would probably add at least $5k to the price if not $7k, which would make me want a soft top.

Looks a lot like this -

I saved this from Edmunds Inside Line -

Looks longer like the ones above and some of the front end characteristics - who knows?

looks pretty good, not too sure about the taillights... but overall not a huge departure from the current Z4.

Couple of observations. Dash has double hump...doesn't look like any more pop up nav. YES! Door handles. Lift up? Isn't that retro? Headlights, wrap around. Nice. Front bumper cover. Has the lines from the CS prototype. I like it. This definately has the bi-turbo in it. Not sure i understand what is going on with the rear tail lights. THey look wrap around but separate...strange...What is with the two antennas? Is the one on the right there for testing equipment? Doesn't look like the new wiper style that is on the 3 series...

Upon closer inspection of the trunk lid, perhaps it will look much different than the current Z4 lid. I can see a thick layer of armor around the roundel. It may also be obscuring part of the taillight as well, so the final shape will surely be interesting to see. And judging by the armor on the front fender, I am thinking there will be pronounced fender flares, though i could be wrong.

suspense is killing me...

According to friend who works in BMW, rear will has similarities with Z9 concept.

Yes, N45 engine is in test-mule.
