Voice Control...
Any of you guys have voice control? Any tips to get the best from it?
Mine works 80% of the time, but with the roof down, it hardly works at all due to ambient noise. Just wondering if there's a way to improve accuracy... |

entering address by voice control is a huge miss. i can get it to work only 20% of the time.
It usually will take me to a different state/province altogether. everything else is fine tho.

I get it to work well, but it's very time consuming to enter it in the car. I will most often send the address to the car from Gmail. Much quicker and easier.

Do you iDrive guys have to use set phrases or can you speak naturally (i.e. like you were asking Siri something) |

It should be in the owner's manual. there are set phrases, like if you want to call someone, you go, "phone book" then you're prompted to say a name, then you're prompted to request a call. Or for Nav, you go, "Address book,", then there are prompts after that. But unlike Siri, there are no cute answers when you ask Siri to go F*** herself.

BTW, what commands do you use? I would like to test this some more to see if I can get more accuracy because right now I only use the dial number command (dictating the number) and it is a 60% failure rate at least |

I dont mind siri, if bmw can just implement actual usable voice control with limited AI, I'm game. Siri never had a issue finding the closest escort service when i start throwing the F bombs, i think iDrive should be able to do that too and maybe automate a message home saying i'll be late for dinner or something.
just a thought.

It's a bit easier with iDrive because it more or less displays the commands and you can just read them off the screen once you are in the proper submenu (e.g. Phone menu).
