Auto Tilt Exterior Mirror
Hi,
I am scheduled to get my Z4 M Sport 2.0i the last week of November. I have a short period within which to decide on options but have confirmed the following; Cruise Control with Brake Function Seat Heating Comfort Access Advanced Loudspeaker System The remaining option I am considering is the electrically folding exterior mirrors. The only reason I am considering this is because it appears to have the auto tilt function for the passenger mirror when reversing which I consider crucial in my X6 (my wife drives this too!) I have done some digging and am begining to think that the auto tilt function might come as standard anyway in which case I would select another option rather than the folding exterior mirrors. Can anyone here, who doesn't have the electrically folding exterior mirrors, nor electric seat adjustment confirm that the passenger mirror will tilt when reversing. Many thanks in advance for your help. G Last edited by Gonkface; 10-08-2013 at 10:26 AM.. |

Here in the US my understanding is that power seats and exterior mirror tilt are bundled together.
I had an E90 328 with manual seats and the exterior mirror did not tilt down when the car was in reverse. |

Thanks for your response.
The dealer has a 2012 that has manual seats and automatic mirrors but it has the auto tilt feature. I am hoping that the auto tilt is a standard feature independent of other features. My dealer is contacting BMW Customer Services for a definitive answer. I was hoping for an answer from someone on here. |

I don't know if this will help, but tilt-down side view mirrors are standard on all BMW's in the US.

My 2006 E60 has it and my brother's older 5 series has it too. Do you mean z series?

Thanks for the responses especially to ManiacGT. So we've established that you don't need the electric mirrors to get the tilt down feature. I just need to rule out the electric seats. ManiacGT do you have electric seats?

I will check for you when I leave work. Give me 57 minutes. But, I do NOT have power folding mirrors, and I do NOT have power seats. So my result should help what you're searching for

Ok well after work I went to go try it out and it did not tilt down when I shifted into reverse. I'm not sure if there's a setting under iDrive to make it happen, but mine definitely did not tilt down.
EDIT: wait, apparently the selector of the mirrors has to be in the setting on the LEFT (as if you were going to change the settings of your driver's side mirror)? I'm going to try it on my lunch break and let you know what happens. |

I look forward to hearing from you regarding the tilt.
In the end I decided to confirm my order with the electric mirrors. My stealer confirmed that this was on the only way to get the auto-tilt function. Will be interesting to see what you discover with the selector in the correct position. G |

Mine did not tilt. I guess no premium package = no tilt. However, on the previous cars I've had, I've always turned it off; I find the auto-tilt extremely annoying.
Hope that helped. Enjoy the new ride! |
