When is snap-in adapter for iPhone 5 coming to USA ?

I checked with my dealer in May ... he said Q3 ... which would be "now". I'll email them again and let you know what they say.

Dealer's accessories/parts person just emailed me ... 'Not yet released in the US' and didn't provide a date or estimated date...

I have an adaptor for the iPhone 4S. Never noticed much of an advantage to having it vs a charging cable and or bluetooth. As a matter of fact, it made checking emails and texts a lot harder.

Thanks this is really helpful information since I was thinking about buying this part.

I thought I read somewhere that using the adapter allows the cell phone to use the car's external antenna for better signal?

Is this true from your experience and are there any other (theoretical?) benefits to the adaper?

Unfortunately ... the first unit I tried failed. BMW connected app could not connect to my car. The second unit worked partially. App could connect and all BMW apps worked (Facebook, Twitter, etc). But ... no audio, 'Plugin' feature says compatible device not found. Movies in the iPhone weren't recognized. From external devices, I could access the snap in, view playlists, select a song to play. Album artwork is displayed and moved on track by track. But no audio. Tested with iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S. My car is up2date with all software. I will try to test with another unit and see if it works.

Which IOS version do you have on your phone? The latest software update notes for the phone / Bluetooth just mentions IOS 5 & 6, even though the snap in adapter specifically says it's good for iPhone 5S (IOS 7) ... just wondering if IOS7 doesn't yet work so great.

Never really noticed. Since I travel between San Diego, OC, and Los Angeles, it's actually difficult to be out of cell tower range. Now if I lived in a fringe area like a Green River, Utah, I might notice, but heck if I can tell where I travel.

Aside from the supposed antenna, I don't see any benefit. One major drawback though. Don't ever leave your phone in there overnight. The electronics will never go to sleep and it will kill your battery. I found out the hard way.

Had an email exchange with the parts guy at a local dealership. He thinks that the adapter may just charge the phone and nothing else - on my 2012 Z4. He offered for me to stop by and try it out.

Went ahead and tried it out ... the user interface works, but no sound! Works fine with the cable. (I have the 5s.) The parts manager said that there is a new adapter supposed to come out early next year, that should work with my "older" (2012 Z4) entertainment system. He said this adapter only works in newer vehicles.

The other disappointment was that the phone doesn't fit into the adapter with the new thin leather case. Taking the phone out of the case first, then into the adapter ... easier to just leave the cable there, even though there really isn't a good place for the phone if you like the armrest functioning as an armrest ... I know, I am so demanding.

Same here ... parts manager told me the same. It seems this adapter requires option 6NS (enhanced bluetooth) which I believe only the new vehicles have. Now we have to wait until next year
