Model year 2012 35i getting HPFP replaced....
Hey guys, I've seen a few posts suggesting that "BMW has figured out the HPFP issues post 2011"
For what it is worth, I wanted to share that my car (model year 2012, Dec 2011 build date, 17k miles on the odometer) is currently getting its HPFP replaced today, and the injectors are being tested tomorrow morning to see if those need to be changed as well. Only "Top Tier" fuels have been used since new, so I am not sure about the "bad fuel" hypothesis for the root cause. The SA chuckled when I asked if it was HPFP and said "yup, its kind of expected" My $0.02, if you have a "keeper" N54 car it is time to make sure you get the 100k fuel pump warranty in writing! |

That is very unfortunate, sorry to hear - At least it is not out of pocket.
It's been a while since I've read about the HPFP - how does one diagnose it? Sudden loss of power I believe it was? What made you go in for yours? Also, I thought the HPFP recall was only for MY 09-10 for the Zs, so there is no way for 11+ to get this warranty in writing, as I'm under the impression the 100k fuel pump warranty is only for those who are affected but have not needed to be have it replaced. Am I correct in this? Guess you've been spending too many days on the track, Nick? :roll eyes: |

HAHA. I wish I was back up to 2 HDPE/month. I had some good quarters where I went monthly but I just haven't had the consistency in 2013 that I wanted.
Actually in 2013 the majority of my track days were with RENTAL CARS (i.e. Chevy Malibu, F30 328 xdrive) in Toronto when I would go with my brother and his friends while visiting. (and annoyingly, those did not get limp mode or power reduction from engine oil temp.. unlike a certain N54 "sports car" I know... ) For me the symptoms were "intermittent long cranking at start" and "rough idle" The injectors are getting checked out tomorrow after the HPFP goes in to see if there is an issue there as well. Agreed, hurray for leasing. I need to check on my service records but I think this is close to my 8th visit in 18 months. I am actually quite bummed by this, because I was planning to buy the Z's replacement outright, but my faith in BMW (and long term ownership of turbo cars, for that matter) is a bit shaken |

What is the "100k" warranty about? I just bought an 09 last fall. Already put new injectors in under warranty. Was there an actual recall on the hpfp? I have read about the issues with it, but I didn't know about a recall.

UPDATE: Fuel injectors also getting replaced, in addition to HPFP. SA mentioned that HPFP issues caused damage to injectors, so they are being replaced also
Also, here is the N54 recall and extended fuel pump warranty we are referring to: http://www.bmwblog.com/2010/10/13/cl...urbo-chargers/ Quote:

Nick, I'm sure your MY 2012 has the latest iteration of the HPFP, so I guess stuff just happens. Too bad. The fact that there has been a dearth of reports about HPFP failures for quite some time tells me your problem is an outlier.

That said, I am chuckling as I type since every time there is post of an issue, be it roof leaks, or rattles, or injectors or ??? there is always a "its just your car" post Another way to look at it is.. if you get 1/20 active forum members reporting HPFP issues it is a huge failure rate |

No argument I guess. At least we're not dealing with GM. GL with your repair.

And it was a 2012 with 17000 miles and I got it cheap at $40000.
