Various squeaks when driving TIP!!
Hi ! Just a tip that may help some guys. I was driving around top up or mostly down and could hear some squeaking, and being one of those anal people who cannot stand squeaks I went on the hunt.
What I found was in this instance!! the rollover covers are in two pieces of plastic front and back piece, pushing these together caused a squeak which was similar, so I dribbled silicon oil around the whole area of the join, between the two covers, on both sides of the car. This noise is more pronounced if you have a wind deflector and it seems to have cured all squeaks so far!!!! Hopefully can help others, have been for a long drive at pace and is fine!!! |

So with cooler weather approaching I'd consider a self-fix & might try the Silicon Oil... but this seems both messy and temporary. Removing the covers and addressing the squeak seems like the best solution, but I've read that the plastic pins joining the two halves are fragile and almost always break upon separation. Is there a "technique" to separate the halves without breaking the pins?

I found it easy to remove the covers using a metal cooking spatula that I slid in between the covers. Then you should pry them gently in each corner with a flathead screwdriver. It takes some effort but I didn't find the pins at risk of breaking at any time. Everything back there is suprisingly safe and well made as long as you dont use excessive forces.
