Anyone experience loss of reverse auto-tilt function on passenger side rear view mirr

When we purchased this 2 year old 35i six months ago, I noticed the reverse gear auto-tilt function on the passenger side mirror was not working. So I went into the programming mode on the column stalk (no idrive) and reset it. It's been working fine for the past few months until recently when it failed again on both key fobs. I will reset it tonight, but I'm wondering why this keeps happening and if I'm the only one to have what appears to be some kind of electronic gremlin?

Have you moved the side mirror adjustment switch from left to right (on the drivers door)? Can't remember which one - but one side allows the auto-dim, the other cancels it.

IIRC it only works if the adjuster button is set to a certain way (possibly drivers side)? Maybe try it with the switch in both positions to see what happens.

if the mirror adjustment selector near your hand on the left door is set to adjust the right mirror then the right mirror will not dip down. To correct for this while the vehicle is in park, first adjust your right mirror to the desired location then move the selector to the left hand position. move the gear selector to reverse and notice that the mirror moves downward. Wait until the mirror moves completely down before selecting another gear or park again. After returning the vehicle to the park position wait for the mirror to readjust itself before turning off your vehicle to prevent the last known position from being overwritten in memory.

It is possible to code this off at the dealer if one chooses.

How about checking the battery? That seems to be the fix for a lot of random electrical glitches on our car

It turned out the rv mirror control switch had been flipped to the right side. Switched it back to drivers side and problem solved!

Took me months to even find this feature on my first BMW, and on my e38 I was finding things even a year later. It's amazing some of the things these cars can do

Coming from 2 previous Miatas, it's easy to make the case that BMWs are a bit over-the-top, electronicly speaking. Especially when my only other experience with the brand was a 1975 2002!
