Question vibration rattle from navi screen

Especially when it is colder (say, less than 60F), the navi screen rattles / vibrates when closed. I can put my finger on the screen and exert very light pressure and the rattle stops.

Now that it is getting colder, it's getting worse -- and increasingly annoying.

A quick search showed that others have experienced this as well. Wonder if anybody ever found a good solution other than bringing it to the dealer?

i brought mine to the dealer wanting the roof and centre console rattle fixed, They returned the car almost exactly as before. telling me that the technicians "weren't able to replicate the rattle" , so they just applied some lubrication to the roof mechanism.

I don't think I like dealing with these lairs any more than i have to.

i also have the rattle from nav screen when closed, so now i just keep them open majority of the time even when i didn't need directions. sorry to say that I haven't found a solution yet.

I have the exact same problem. I programmed button number 8 to close the screen and it always starts to rattle when I do so. And yes, putting a finger on the screen is the only known solution so far...

Sounds like a bushing was made that doesnt exactly fit the unit. Under if there is a replacement for them.

Had something similar, was in the dealers several times. They resolved it in the end, though the whole dash now creaks on very roads/manholes. Rather that though than the constant buzz I had from the dash.

Just one more rattle from the roll hoop to sort out and I'm nearly noise free! Never had to work so hard on such an expensive car!

I think just move your cursor to the right and the option should be there.
I programmed it into the shortcut for easy access

I hear you ... did the dealer tell you what they did to stop the rattle from the navi?

Apparently it wasn't the screen but a cable rattling against the bulkhead. Sounded like the screen though!

Interesting. Need to ask them that when I go in for the oil change in spring.

hello guys!

i have the same problem, i wonder if somebody has resolved the problem...
I have noticed that when i put my finger on the edge of the screen, the rattle disappears, but it stops as well when i push on the grill behind the screen... so maybe the problem is "under" this area?
i've read on another thread that the issue came from a little cable under the grill...

have you any solution?
it's annoying!

No, sorry. With the roof open I don't hear it ...

My Z4 doesn't want an oil change yet, so I haven't been back to the dealer yet to ask them.

I sprayed some 3 in 1 DRY lubricant (Professional range) with PTFE into the crevices surrounding the mechanism and worked it in with a thin bit of plastic. That seems to have stopped my buzzing sound from that area.

It evaporates quickly to form a layer of dry Teflon.

I take it this stuff isn't conducting then?

Well, at least the PTFE itself has excellent dielectric properties, and is used for higher-end cables, PCBs etc

ok.
And what about a "siliconed oil"? (I don't know if it's correctly translated...) : the silicon in it seems to neutralize vibrations...

Mine does the same. Sound like some kinda actuating arm is vibrating. The only cure i found was to gently push the unit down slightly when open, but frightened might do some damage. Anyone known how to access the unit, can it be got at by removing the front speaker panel?

I wonder if the problem isn't under this central panel behind the screen...

Same problem here... haven't tested it with the lid closed, but in my Z4 it happens also when the lid is open.
