Where's the family at? Are you close with them? Have you made close friends in SD or just acquaintances?
Family's in Maryland. Only immediate family in the states (mom, pops, bro, sister, sis-in-law). Sister is in Wisconsin doing some City Year bullshit, brother's busy with his business, pops cray cray. So only mom in Maryland.

Just acquaintances in SD, no close friends.

Ah another knock against DC...it's close proximity to those God awful Maryland drivers.

Dammit, I've said this a hundred times already haha

I'll be living in DC. No need for a car, we walk everywhere

Yes the Metro is evolving into a nightmare, but that I can handle (Metro bus, Uber, bike, etc.)

Yeah, I thought about it. But getting to class and work from VA would be a nightmare with traffic. And I don't trust the metro enough to get on from VA and get to school that way (plus transferring metro lines, etc.).

Right now, from Dupont, school is a 15 minute bus ride away, and work is a 20 minute walk away. Very manageable. From VA, it would be 1+ hour(s).

Be glad you don't live in Miami. I've expressed my frustrations regarding drivers down here long enough

When do you make your move back to DC?

I avoid 95 in Miami like the plague. Even on the way home from Brickell I take side roads which has some decent cruising roads and I still run into ass-clowns always trying to either race me or cut me off.

OP, do us a favor and score before you leave. Plus, you know what to do. Pics or BAN.

I enjoy the express lanes thoroughly , the 65 mph speed limit somehow becomes 90.

In VA area of DC, they have HOT lanes on I-66 or in other words rich people lanes.
Can't be bothered to wait in traffic with the peons? Pay up to $17 to drive 5 miles to get to your power lunch with the President on time!

Not quite, VA has HOT lanes on I-495 from Tysons Corner to the I-95/395 intersection (aka The Mixing Bowl). They're also along I-95/I-395 from the Arlington County border (in Arlington County the HOT lanes just become HOV lanes) all the way down to Stafford County. Thank God they're expanding the HOT lanes all the way down to Fredericksburg.

The ones along I-66 are set to open next year I believe. The shitty thing about the I-66 HOT lanes is that you have to pay them no matter what, there is no option to not pay them unless you decide to not get on I-66 at all once you're inside the beltway. Good news is that it's only enforced during rush hour and the cost to go against traffic should be cheap (can't remember if it's free).

I would like to go private practice at some point down the road, but I just can't sit here and map out exactly what year that will be just yet.
Exactly. Is the unknown a pro or a con? Some would kill to possibly move around like that and do something different on each move. Others would hate it. My cousin was JAG for about 30 years and that was a huge plus for him. You don't need to know exactly. nobody can do that.

so when I left in 2013, they just installed those lanes on I-66 starting around the I-495 interchange. I recall, you had an option to drive in the HOT lanes or regular lanes. At that time, HOT lanes always cost money, even on a deserted highway at midnight, it still costs like 10 cents per mile...

Is that not the HOT lanes?

Ah, no that's different. That's the "Active Traffic Management" system they built. Cameras monitor traffic throughout the day and should traffic become too congested, the shoulder opens to traffic (before, the shoulder was only open to traffic during rush hour) and the speed limits will drop as traffic becomes more and more congested.

http://wtop.com/sprawl-crawl/2016/04...ily-commuters/

Construction hasn't yet started on setting up the HOT lanes inside the beltway on I-66 but that's supposed to start soon then after hopefully not too long, they're actually adding more lanes on I-66 inside the beltway.....thank God.
