Where will you be in 10 years on both paths? In all aspects. location, job happiness, pay, additional opportunities... Which one do you want more? Which one are you willing to sacrifice to achieve the other?

See, I have to think short term because long term things (out of my control) may change drastically. I may be stationed overseas practicing criminal law, or I may be stationed in San Diego practicing aviation law. I can't really predict where I'll be or what I'll be doing, it's at the Navy's discretion (wherever there is need). Also, I must serve four years minimum. For those four years at least, I can't really plan anything. And if I wind up enjoying what I'm doing, which I'm sure I will, I may still in the service well beyond that.

I would like to go private practice at some point down the road, but I just can't sit here and map out exactly what year that will be just yet.

It's not about what you can't control but more of a path to an end result that you would like - how do you go from criminal to aviation? You're saying you have decision in this? Just don't end up in entertainment writing contracts all day long haha
