Stay in San Diego or move back to DC? Help meh

Guys, I'm extremely torn on this issue and everyone I've spoken to has also been conflicted. Need advice please.

A bit of background, I'm an incoming second year law student in DC, but I'm out in San Diego for an "internship program" (which is more of a "if you got into the program, you got the job"). I have an awesome studio apartment in the heart of DC and I absolutely love DC. Although DC and San Diego have their fair share of differences, I've enjoyed both cities. SD is chill and laid back while DC is competitive and constantly going...I relate more with DC, but in comparison to 70 degree year-round weather in SD, I'm not so sure. But, this is picking between apples and apples, not apples and oranges.

So, this morning, during a meeting, I receive an offer to continue working where I am currently for the rest of law school (which, I have to add, is an absolute dream job I likely won't get until I'm 7-10 years down the road). I absolutely love going to work every single day and I don't want it to end. However, if I accept this offer, I'll obviously have to transfer schools (confident I will be accepted). Both schools are great, but regardless, school doesn't matter too much for the work I'm going into as long as it's respectable, which both are. I will also have to deal with my DC apt lease agreement, all my furniture that's over there, securing a new spot in SD, buying new furniture...and anything that goes wrong; certainly, something is bound to go wrong. I would have to do all of this within 40 days. Then, pick new classes, and most good classes will already be filled, and get adjusted to a completely new scene and lifestyle.

I'm torn. I have an amazing job which I enjoy doing every single day, 70 degree and sunny weather non-stop, chill vibes, and beautiful beaches within walking distance in SD. In DC, I have a badass top-floor studio apartment, a social environment I enjoy and feel I thrive in, a solid clerkship secured for the next year, and tons of friends. The cost of living would be exactly the same in both places ($2K for my nice apartment in DC gets me an even better apartment in SD).

Need suggestions please!

I'm so torn.

I'm so psychic! I knew this was gonna be a question for you and just asked you this earlier today!

My choice would be San Diego.

Don't know you or your situation, but given the choice between those two cities, SD hands down.

DC 1st choice, you have work/dream job/social environment/home/more acquaintances/more professional contacts there already.

SD once you're done with school and have good standing in your profession that you'll be one of the top guys instead of starting at the bottom once you get there.

As much as I don't want you nearby or tainting SD, you pretty much have your answer right there... You love going to work every single day... Not sure you could put a price tag on that one...

Furniture could be sold / repurchased, start fresh in a new city... As long as you aren't loving it because you're running from something, think SD might be the right choice...

Weigh it out... Friends, family, job, school etc... Do you like putting winter tires on every winter? Or do you want nice weather and higher taxes?

Plant your flag and stay in SD. I may be going sometime next year near SD to visit my best friend in the USMC as he was relocated to Pendleton. Beer is on you though.

Fuck DC bro. If you've been away it's even more congested af and the Metro is fucked. Some stations only have a single training running on the line. The entire servicing of all lines is expected to last a year +. Ditch your apt in DC your landlord will have absolutely no problem renting it out. Not sure how central you are in DC but a lot of construction and developments have leveled a bunch of buildings. Tons of stuff is moving over to the Hill and it's beyond congested.

However, cant beat some of the pretentious Georgetown girls there though...

Holy shit - I agree with shoei and even his rationale is what I was thinking.

For real though - based on your post, the one irreplaceable thing is the job. Everything else can be handled. This is based on limited info and only you can really decide, but your post made it sound like SD is the better play. Sounds like you can't go wrong though - two great options for you!

So I was born and raised in SD and moved out to the east coast. Still no place like home. I lived in downtown for a couple of years and it was fantastic. If you can see that you have a long term career there, SD. Weather can't be beat.

I just would have a hard time affording my m3 with all the taxes and cost of living there.

Northern Virginia and DC craziness? Vs SD?

Are you nuts?

I lived in NOVA and HATED the place and that was 20 years ago. Now I go up to visit friends and it is such a cluster f**K of roads and craziness.

My kid is buying a house in a crappy but rising part of DC (bullet hole in one of the windows crappy....I am hoping that wasn't recent) and it is so expensive to live there...

Now he will make a bunch of money there but he will spend it on living expenses.

You can always move back.

I lived in DC for 20 years, got the F out in 2006 and I'll never look back. I can't believe this is even a thread.

Dude. You can't put a price on job happiness.

72 and sunny year round and girls in bikinis ALL DAY, EVERY DAY.

I'm from Texas and I've been out here for 15 years. I wouldn't be anywhere else unless I was moving out of the country.

Where else can you live that's called "The Whale's Vagina"?
