Any idea how you would remove these foils if necessary?

Firstly why would you? and to answer your question one would use dental floss!!!! then remove any excess glue, having done this before a couple of times and on the decals.

Added rear mud flaps

I just replaced my RFT's with a set of Michelin PSS tires and added width to the rears too. So I decided to add a set of OEM mud flaps on the rear. Not a fan of the front ones, but the rears should add protection.

Thanks BMWZ44ME, it looks great, did you install the mud guards yourself?

I'm really confused. I don't have mudflaps and those areas haven't had any paintchip damage to them. I would not go w/ the flaps imho; they really detract from the look of the car and (in my case) don't offer any benefits.

Yes I did. Pretty simple really. Toughest partwas removing the wheels and reinstalling them. The flaps are provided with fasteners and typically BMW with no instructions. There were clips for the screws, but I didn't use any, although the smaller silver clip could have been used for the upper most hole in the lip of the fender. Took less than 10 minutes to install after the wheel and tires were removed.

The flaps really blend in with the tires on a rear view.

I feel like they would look decent if they were painted to color match the car. I am thinking about doing that. :P

A while back I had to use a gravel run off area and there were no chips in the paint from that even without mud flaps so I'm not convinced on the usefulness of this add on myself.

I'm sure they're functional. They just don't look very nice IMHO. Might work on a black car perhaps.

The only way I would put mud flaps on my Z were if they were color coded to the body and I could seal the seams to give a flush mount look.
I added mud flaps to my former rider, 08- Acura TL-Type S which was Alabaster Silver Metallic. Acura offered the mud flaps in the body color for the standard body, but I installed the Acura ASPEC body kit on my car which the OEM mud flaps were never designed to fit. Therefore I modded them to fit and needed to cover the wider gap on the fitment. I lucked out and found a BRIGHT SILVER SILICONE that matched my body color to a tee. None the less, on any application the color match sealant is a great hider of sins. I will would never find space grey silicone.

sure it looks good on certain cars, just not on the z4. I had black flaps on my black z4 before and it looked like crap.

Yup, as I've said in my earlier post, I don't think that they serve any purpose because I traveled on some bad roads as well and not 1 rock chip behind the wheels' area. I've driven well over 100,000kms(60,000miles?) and this is my 3rd yr of ownership.

They look good colour coded, well worth the effort and an insurance against future paintwork damage

what is the plastic piece sticking out from the bottom of the car infront of the wheel. I have this on my car too (I can only assume everyone else does) but for the life of me I fail to see the point of them?
