dumb question - hole in rear deck?
the whole in the rear deck, inside the car, is where the rear windows mounts. but when the top is down and it rains, where does all the water go? in my trunk? that can't be the case, someone please explain. (see pic attached)

Hopefully in the 20 seconds it takes to close your top, your whole car is not flooded out and your trunk is dry. It would probably be the only dry part of the car come to think of it.
My guess that the locking mechanism in the "hole" does not directly open into the trunk. I've never noticed an open hole when I've look in the trunk. I could be wrong though. Anyone willing to stick a hose in the back hole and see what happens?

i'm not willing to stick a hose, but i did take a pic... it looks like rain would go into the trunk...
see the little tab on the rear window piece(pic #1), you can see it stick thru the trunk when it's closed(piece #2).

thanks mr. obvious
i was trying to show that the hole is directly into the trunk and there's nothing to stop the water from entering your trunk if the roof is down.

If this hole is exposed, there's also a really big hole right above the seating area, the one where the roof would be if it wasn't in the trunk and exposing the small hole in the picture. The small hole in the picture presents a potential leak problem ... that you will never notice with the whole interior soaked..

Just put a piece of DUCK tape over the whole when the top is down. That way you will protect whatever is in the trunk if it rains !! OH,,,, better get an umbrella too.....

Memphis are you able to take a pic showing the hole open from inside the trunk. This information is critical as if I get carjacked, I need to know my screams will be easily heard from the truck.

Why not just run a small test. Put a towel down on the floor of the trunk, then pour a few ounces of water in the hole and see what happens.
This issue does not affect me as I won't drive on the 5 days of the year it rains here. So, I have 1001 other priorities higher than running this test. Last edited by BlueZ4AZ; 02-09-2010 at 05:06 PM.. |
