Z4 Next Generation--New Pic

I just came across this article. It says that the new Z4 should be out in 2009. Does that mean that the 08 Z4 is the last year of production or will the new Z4 be a 2010 coming out in late 2009? Wonder what pricing will be like, if it will go up to over 40k.

Yawn... I think I'll hang on to my 05 for now.
Was there an article? I can't see it in my browser, can someone copy it and paste the article here?

Preview: 2009 BMW Z4 Roadster
Posted on Friday 17 August 2007

BMW will be converting the Z4 into a coupe-convertible with a folding metal hardtop when it introduces the next-gen model in early 2009. Recent spy shots of a prototype testing new Munich showed a car with a familiar shape to the current Z4. Short rear overhangs and a long hood characterized the test-mule but it also featured a new folding roof and was slightly larger than the current model. This is in-line with BMW’s plans to reposition the next Z4 into a higher price point as it makes way for the introduction of a smaller entry-level Z car.

As reported yesterday, production of the new Z4 will be handled by BMW’s Regensburg plant in Germany. The move will enable BMW to produce volume sellers, such as its SUV models, in the US and take advantage of the favourable exchange rate. At the same time, low volume premium models like the new Z4 will be manufactured at plants in Germany.

A couple of years after the Z4 is launched in ‘09, BMW will add the potent M version of the car. This new model is in-line to receive the new high-rev 4.0L V8 engine that debuts in the new M3. Other engines for the new Z4 range will include the 300hp twin-turbo six, as well as the smaller 2.5L naturally aspirated petrol six.

This artist’s rendition of the car gives us a good indication as to what the final styling may look. BMW is expected to introduce styling derived from the CS concept across much of the range and this should also be visible on the Z4.

Thanks, yeah that's the article I was reading a few weeks ago, I think it was referenced on this forum somewhere...
With gas prices getting higher every year, I can't see a V-8 being a big seller... now the 300hp twin-turbo six, THAT sounds interesting!

Whoever PS'd that prototype Z4 should be fired. That has to be the least creative photoshop I've seen. Current E85 Z4 body with Z8 side gills, and X3 front?

If this is true what will happen to homecoming? I hate to see them move it to Germany.

I've already made reservations at the Regensburg Embassy Suites. I suggest you do the same.

I think it will make homecoming a very unique event since it will be only US built Z cars. Perhaps there will be homecoming events on two continents? Or, perhaps it will be classic Z cars and then modern Z cars. Classic Z cars will have homecoming in the states and the modern cars in Germany... In anycase, with the changes coming we can expect our cars to be the classics Z cars...and become collectible, especially the low production M versions.

-Agreed.

There is absolutely nothing about the proposed Z4 that appeals to me, relative to the E86.

We debated ad nauseum, whether that was the new Z4 or Z8/9.....

JMO... but it makes total sense that, that's the new larger Z4. (look at seating position futher ahead of rear axel)
It brings the numerical sequence back in order...
I always wondered why change from Z3 -> to 4 on a car that was smaller than a 3er.

The larger car will hit a high end sweet spot in the market with the vert tin roof;
& leave room for a purists sports car, the Z2

Decisions, decisions....do I want a purist sports car or a high end sweet spot Z4....boy oh boy....that decision is going to be tough......

I am all about the TTI6 version of this Z!!!

I went for a country drive this week in my Jeep, and on the way there it was great to have the hardtop off, but it would have been real nice to have a top on the way back. I know a soft top would do the trick, but a hard top seems much nicer.
