Z4 As Everyday Drive

For those that can drive the Z4 as a daily drive, I salute you!!! I managed it for ONE YEAR, and had to get an additional ride. The new F150 is, in one word - everything, the Z4 is not. AC and heated seats, all the perks, I must admit it is nice to ride in, very comfortable for long or short trips. The Z has now been relegated to the weekend or getaway vehicle, as it should have been from day one!!!

F150? you mean a ferrari became your daily driver? And you did not have AC and heated seats on the Z4? I do and actually I prefer it as my daily driver to many other cars I have owned.

Of course a F150 is everything a Z4 is not, its like comparing apples to oranges. A Z4 isn't even trying to be a truck lol. The ride on E85/E86's are rougher and a smaller cabin compared to E89's, i can't imagine it being a harsh daily driver unless you're overweight.

and the Z4 is everything the F150 is not. well, it's not a ford.

I do use the z4 for daily drive, just not in the snow storms. AC and heated seats? look, I wouldn't daily drive a truck just as you wouldn't daily drive a sports car, different priorities.

I dd my Z4 but I also have a Jeep GC limited that I drive a few days a week. I only have a 10 mile commute to work so it isn't that bad.

Your Z4 doesn't have AC?

And you bought a new pickup truck to fix this?

Z4 is my DD. Did you get the Texas or King Ranch edition?

Thanks for the salute. After one year of ownership and daily driving the Z4 I am still looking forward to the next drive. The biggest challenge for me is to keep finding new songs that I can download to the car. Chinese FM radio is not something I have learned to enjoy yet. I also wish the oil temp would get up to 100C more quickly...

The z4 is bad on rough roads, and the worry about cracking wheels adds to the experience, but its my daily driver and I see no point spending on another car as I drive routes with nice roads where I can and its a lovely drive.

Jeez, didn't know you army guys got your panties in such a wad!!!

Perhaps you didn't comprehend my statements. I drove the Z4 for over a year as a daily drive. I still have the Z4, and can drive it when I feel so compelled. Vehicles are totally different, I understand that. Quite simply, I needed an additional vehicle, and while the F150 is NOT the ultimate driving machine, it is nice and a welcomed break from the Z.

What exactly would overweight have to do with anything, other than needing a can opener to get in the Z??? Now, I can drive an alternate vehicle, carry several more passengers when needed, haul ass (of a different nature), and keep the miles on the Zed low, thus, added value....

Yes, the Z4 has AC. And when the top is down during the summer, in Texas, the back does sweat, it's a fact. On a long trip, seats that have the AC, not just heated, adds a certain comfort to sitting for long spells... The new truck is simply the other ride, has comforts, and I needed something to haul stuff, it made sense. My HD Fatboy doesn't have AC, unless I ride it in the cool months, and I never considered it as a daily drive either. I can afford my toys, and drive what I want, when I want...

Didn't trade it, I added to the stable.... Read my comments.....

2012 Z4
2013 F-150
2006 Mustang GT
2005 Harley Fatboy
....and the wive's SUV - which I refuse to drive....

The Pony and HD have low mileage. I now have more options for the daily drive.....

I was looking at getting the XLT, but by the time the wife listed her needs in the event she ever drove it, moved up to the Lariat edition. All of the options you get with the Lariat, for the small difference in price, made more sense.... I had 4 Avalanches previously, decided to change brands. So far, I like the features and options on this vehicle. Drove to Dallas a week ago, averaged almost 20MPG, keeping it between 75-80 most of the way, so, kinda pleased I got that mileage....

You are welcomed...

Damn guys, I STILL HAVE the Z, didn't expect everyone to take offense to a remark. I would understand had I stated I traded it in on a truck as my only ride. Lets see....

The Z4 is fun to drive, sporty, fast, I can put the top down almost daily, is fun, sporty, did I mention fast?

The F-150, 4 doors, more passengers, can haul stuff, a ton of features to make driving "pleasant". Sound system, I think it's better than the Zed, and I have premium sound in the Zed.

My only dilemma now.... I'm considering whether or not to keep the Z, or sell it. The only reason I would sell it would be to order a new Z4iS next year, with the options and colors I want, and do the European delivery..... Otherwise, the Z stays in the garage, keep the mileage down - somewhat, and use it a little more sparingly.

Having had a Z4 as a daily driver for (going on) 10 years now, the importance of having larger, more utility-minded vehicles around is a pretty obvious. You can only find yourself in the position of renting an SUV in a pinch to get silly things like picture frames home from the store before breaking down and buying a "pack mule".

I have tried to convince myself on several occasions that a different daily driver would be worthwhile, but that's a suckers game. Of course some things may be easier with something else... but something else isn't very fun at all.

I've lent my Z4 to an overweight friend for a day(i swapped vehicles with him), i'm not gonna be politically correct about this because he is big. I have no problem with big people. He did comment that the car would not be a good daily driver, and his cohort agreed (a big man as well).

I would think as well that this is more of a personal preference and has nothing to do with how big you are but fat-friends suggestions and observations say otherwise. I daily drive this car, and its the older model, which makes it smaller and less comfortable compared to the E89.
