Why dont you have them - dont you guys kidnap people by forcing them into the trunk (boot) like everyone else?

kidnapping with a Z?

no, i need a way to open the trunk, when the CTM electronic locks the trunk lid.
My idea: using the throughload opening and pull the emergency handle.

And please send a photo

Thank you

I dont know if mine even has one - I always thought is was a distinctly north american feature... like extra cup holders.

Smile Four years later ... !

... and your photo of the trunk emergency release handle on the Z4 E89 came in handy for us today. I had the battery unhooked to do some work and my wife walked by and closed the trunk lid - meaning that the car had no power and their was no manual way to open the trunk.

BMW Roadside Assistance suggested towing the roadster into the dealer, but it was RAINING, the top was down, and it was MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND so, the car would have to sit all weekend.

Here's what we did ...

- I popped open the pass-through "ski bag" door into the trunk with a gentle rap of my fist. Didn't break anything, just enough force to push it open.

- Because the top was down (in the trunk), the emergency release handle was tough to see or get to. We put a shop light in the trunk and my son had the idea to use Apple Face Time using my iPhone on a selfie stick into the trunk and his MacBook as our way of "seeing" into the dark.

- Using a clothes hanger bent into a "L" shape, to get up from under the stored roof of the car (with the end slightly less hooked than normal), we were able to hook the emergency release handle twice: once to unlatch it from the trunk and again to pull the trunk release open.

Took 2 hours total, but we got it open! Thanks for the photo - it was the only one of an E89 that I could find online.

Good job
By the time my good battery goes bad I will likely forget about all this, so I tied a lanyard to the handle and run it inconspicuously to the access hatch which opens from in the car.

In a similar situation right now, but I don't have the ski pass through. Battery is sitting in the garage on a charger. Any other thoughts? Tried sending 12v through a specific pin in the fuse box, but no luck there either. At my end here... Might just drill a hole through it.

Z4 2009

Good morning to all.
I have enjoyd following the posts on this forum, and have decided to ask for help.
My 2009 z4 is part way through roof openin cycle and unlatched the rear window. But stopped there.
I cannot now open my trunk with any of the usual methods.
I believe one of the orange eledtrical relays are to blame, as i had swapped the two of them around because the roof opening was getting stuck at anoher operation.
How do i manually open my trunk.
My windows will not even open now.
Thanks
David.

Trunk opening

I did the same and closed the trunk with the battery disconnected. Simply put jump leads to the charging points under the hood and trunk will now open.
