Water temperature Gauge

I'm looking to install a pure water temperature gauge on my N52 3.0 Z4. Currently the Z4 has an what is described as a water temperature sender but interestingly enough its described as an "Temperature sensor water/oil" BMW P/N 13621433076. It screws into the head adjacent to the oil filter housing. I haven't removed it so I'm not sure but I think it measures the temperature of the aluminum head adjacent to the water oil cooler. Does anyone know if it goes into the water passage and measure the water temperature? Also, does any know or know how I could find the resistance range of the sensor?
