Roof stowed and will not open

2009 E89

Roof was stowed in the trunk. Tried to close it and NOTHING.

I'm getting an A568 and 9CBB error.

Anyone know of a way to manually close the roof or overide the fault so the roof will start to close (once unlocked, I can release the hydraulic pressure and move the roof by hand)?

These two brass valves are only for lowering the hydraulic pressure in the hydraulic hoses. But you can't open the hydraulic locking mechanism of the roof this way.

Robbi,

That is quite an impressive looking invention.

Can you share "how to unlock the front locking mechanism... It only can be opened by powering the motor on the 2-pole plug on top of the CTM in the first step."

Is there a way to pin several wires to get it to unlock?

You have to get physical access to the CTM on the lower right of the trunk and unplug this 2-pole-plug. There is no other way possible from anywhere else to get to this e-motor, as the complete system ist below the stowed roof shells.

Robbi,

Do you sell copies of your diagnostic tool?

If not, is there another tool that can "override" roof error codes to force the top to move (gently of course)?

Sorry, my "tool" is a big blue box with a bunch of self developed hardware:

Testing in my Z4:

Unfortunately I don't know any tool to support you in this case. That is the reason I developed a toolbox of my own for all these possible roof fails.

Does the 2-pole plug on the convertible top module control the lock/unlock mechanism? If so, how can I trigger the lock/unlock mechanism externally? ( jump wires, etc..)?

Oh No!!!!!!

Please drop this link, as it is absolute nonsense just in case, your roof fails for the first time.

And it doesn't help in this special case.

There is always a way. The top is now closed, so I have access to the module.

I'll figure it out.

dealer got it out of "stowed" position and into the fully closed position, via his "magic" tool.

So. if the dealer was able to move the roof from a stowed position to a closed position, it confirms that the motor, electrics and hydraulics are all working. I'm guessing the dealers magic tool simply bypassed a broken wire/sensor thus making the module believe all circuits were good and thus closed the roof.

My job now is to diagram the pin in/out of the module in the truck and create a backup way to move the roof if it fails again in the stowed (roof in the trunk) position where you cant get to the module (roof components block module access). Basically the same thing RobbiZ4 did.
