Really, the M3 touring would be a much smarter option than an X3/4 M model.

Yeah well the GLA sucks, not really surprising.

Hardly sells over here, the A45 AMG sells very well, as does the C63 AMG Estate and lots of RS6 Avants.

Here big powerful estates sell well.

Because you can use them. Here in Europe the estate or avant variants are a status symbol. It says to everyone that sees you that you have a family and are successful. 90% of the wagon mafia that flys by me on the autobahn have a suit coat hanging on the back. They are usually going twice the highest speed limit in the U.S. As well.

Are you over sarcastic here or have you simply no idea about the cars you talking about?

X3M & X4M are both seriously late to the party don't you think !?!

I don't care what BMW sells, as long as they spend some of the earnings on R&D and create more CAFE headroom for M cars.
They just seem silly to me. I wouldn't actually be judging you that was more in jest. I've just never understood the wide range appeal of high performance SUV's.

I'm sure if I drove one I'd change my mind.

But like I said, there's obviously people who want them. I see them fairly often.
For me- I'm fortunate enough to be spoiled by the driving dynamics of M cars (on and off the track). For good reason, they're not designed or equipped to pack with too many people, dogs, etc.

To that end, our X3 xDrive35i does an admirable job of hauling my family around without feeling like a lumbering yacht (like our F15 X5 did)... but an X3 with a bit more dynamism -something with road manners more akin to the M cars I love to drive- would be greatly welcome.

Will the G01 X3M be available at launch?

Nah- lots of people over here want command driving positions. It's just a thing. My wife would never drive a wagon for that reason... She'd drive an X3M in a heartbeat.

The argument that the take rate is decreasing doesn't mean a thing when demand has stayed relatively stable throughout the years. MT enthusiasts are pretty vocal about their love of the transmission and they DO put their money where their mouths are.

I think that's a VW Group problem, not Audi's.
VW Group would do the same with Porsche if the cars shared platforms between them.
In fact I think the Macan shares some parts/components with other VW cars, I think Audi Q5

You are mostly right. Audi has always been the poor man's BMW. Plus they almost all look like bars of worn soap.

Because a M3 Touring make much more sense than a X3M for driving dynamic, weight, low center of gravity etc. Plus, if bmw force me toward a Sav, Suv or whatever you want to call it, then I will buy a real one something like a 4 runner probably. I just don't see the point of sporty suv.

Like it or not, people tend to find the CUV/SAV/SUV more practical then a wagon and they can still be fun to drive. BMW is just late to the party with the X3M, they should have had an F25 variant ready to go since Porsche and Audi are currently grabbing that piece of the market.

I think Estates / Avants tend to be bought by people with families, life outside work etc.

I use my when mountain biking, if on own, bike in the back, if with mates, on roof or rear.

Yes in Germany with an Audi RS4 /6 Avant or Mercedes it's easy to be travelling at 160 mph.

I used to when I lived there

I would sell a kidney and whatever was necessary to pick up an M3 Touring. The fact that they can't do it really makes me :

An M2, M3, M4, M5, M6 and M8 are the only cars ///M should make. All the rest is rubbish! No touring model, no suv model,...

And the ///M cars should be more 'hardcore', more track focused.

Barking mad business model though.

I assume you will definitely be buying an M2 or do you already have a new M3 or M4?

I don't understand why people care if there are 50 M cars or 2 M cars. You are buying a car for your own enjoyment, get it, drive it, and have fun. Why take away cars that others enjoy just because you would never buy them?

Lol and Jaguar isn't a share holder pleasing machine? They just built their first CUV.

When did people forget that these are for profit companies? Either expand your portfolio and sales with attractive products or lose to the competition.

Hop on any automotive forum and you'll always hear the rosy retrospection and people saying how brand x has "lost its way" or is "watering down the brand".

People mistake staying competitive for "watering down the brand".
Agree 100% with this, there's always those group of people who can't seem to place themselves in the now. And if the now consists of turbos and X3M's then so be it, it's just how things are changed in the times we are living

Agreed. But at least this makes me feel better about ordering my F80 now since I know I won't have to trade it in for a M3 touring later.
