I have a 09 35i.
I too was just thinking if it is possible to put a Cold Air intake on the different series of these ZED motors like a K & N Cold Air Intake kit?
Any experience with this upgrade out there?

Be very careful with aftermarket intakes and air filters. Turbos do not like dirt of any size. K&N are known for getting good flow suitable for standard engines but not necessarily good for turbos. Ford for example void the warrantee on the truck turbos if you have an aftermarket K&N. It's the old debate about aftermarket parts, but here I think it might have legs.

i am not sure for 28i but for 35i/35is, the best bang for the buck would be BMS Dual Cone Intake. http://www.burgertuning.com/dcintake.html

you should do the combo with JB4 which gain about 80-100whp

Great advise on the potential warranty void, especially since I just ponied up for a 3 year BMW Gold extended warranty. Would the Burger Tuning dual cone intake void the warranty in anyone's experience?

Ask your local dealership what their policy is for air cleaners (or other mods) voiding warranties.
Some dealerships will install your aftermarket bits, and others are risk adverse.
K&N cold air filters are CARB approved and provide a sticker/registration number for smog inspectors to record and enable passing inspection . How a dealer or warranty provider feels may be different.

Voiding warranty really depend on the manager's mood and your relationship with the dealership. I've had a case where my engine went out and the manager told me undo the supercharger and he will warranty it for me. I've also had a case where the sway bar end link broke off and the manager said its due to aggressive driving and wont warranty it.

Establish a good relationship with your dealership and they will always do their best to accommodate you. I've had a case where the dealership gave me a loaner car to drive for 3 months while my car is being built

I agree, it really depends. I had the N52 motor replaced and they gave me a loaner car for over a month. :P
