E89 Windows not inching down when opening door

Hey Folks,

Both the drivers and passenger windows do not inch down when opening the door and they don't inch up when you close the door, so it's not getting a good seal.

I've tried the reset method of putting car into 1 on position, opening window fully and holding for 15 seconds then closing fully and holding for another 15 seconds, does nothing. Any tips on what it could be?

Not sure..usually you neee a bmw specific code reader for E89s…with 30 plus ECUs almost all are entirely or mostly bmw specific..

Well the general methodology is to read the codes, then clear them down, then straight away re-read them..you can accumulate a lot of codes over time for many reasons..that code reader really isn’t up to snuff..at the moment we can’t see the wood for the trees..

a few years ago I had the same issue with the windows not inching up or down. I tried all the items you tried but no go. Finally at the dealer they said my battery was weak (old) and when this happens the car systems start shutting down non essential items. They replaced the battery and that fixed the issue.

Good to know ..90% of all mystery issues on E89s end up as a duff battery…

I'll get my battery tested, thank you for the suggestion!

Tested battery, no issues. Took it to a mechanic and he couldn't figure it out either :|
