"Recommended refuel" working for you?

I've never been able to get my car to show "recommended refuel" points while navigating as shown on page 131 of the manual. Going to "Route Information" never includes this, even when I enter a fairly distant route (say, New Hampshire to Mexico City) over which it's reasonable to expect that I'll have to refuel and reasonable to expect there are fuel stations somewhere along the route. This always shows up on my wife's X3, and I can't see that I'm doing anything differently.

Has anyone else been able to use this feature on their Z4?

Go into "display points of interest" on the nav options menu. there will be a long list of items that, if you check them off, will then show up on your nav map. "fuel stations" is the one you're looking for.

Lol, he wants refuel points to show on a map, not what fuel to use guys. I've tried the setting on my z4 and it works as the manual says, perhaps it's dependent on other settings...

Nope. That's not what I'm talking about.

The "recommended refuel" feature (as described on page 131 of the manual) is what I'm looking for:

Gas station recommendation
The remaining range is calculated and gas stations
along the route are recommended.
1. "Navigation"
2. "Route information"
3. "Recommended refuel"
A list of the gas stations is displayed.
4. Highlight a gas station. The position of the
gas station is shown on the split screen.
5. Select the gas station.

However, in my case, "Recommended refuel" doesn't show up. I was wondering if it did for anyone else.

No Nav system but I hav some apps on my iPad and I actually look at my gauges and trip computer once in a while....

There is a decent app that tells what is at an exit on the interstates, it's quite good ... also have a Shell app that shows Shell stns and also an Exxon/Mobil app that does the same. Couldn't find a Conoco or a Chevron app but those are the four fuels I prefer on trips through the States....

Argh. This is driving me a bit nuts. I just went on a long(-ish for New England) trip during which I had to refuel once each direction.

It would have been really helpful to have this feature, which is intended not only to find a station but also to prevent running out of fuel and minimizing disruptions to the route. For example, at one point I was low enough that I estimated I'd run out before I got to the next station if I didn't turn around.

I was puzzled by this too since it's in my 2011 M3 manual but not in iDrive. Turns out the feature is disabled by default in US cars (no idea why it's in the manual in that case, probably a printing glitch) and the only way to enable it is via coding with the right cable and software. I've managed to do that to get the feature, but doing that is definitely a power user procedure. You can do all sorts of other cool stuff with coding though. For example, I've set up these features:

- Doors unlock when the engine is turned off so you don't have to pull the door handle twice
- Keyfob automatically ejects when the engine is turned off you so you don't have to push in to pull out
- Keyfob can be used to CLOSE the windows and moonroof rather than just open them
- iDrive startup legal disclaimer removed
- Alarm now beeps on lock but not unlock (that always annoyed me)

There's TONS more you can do with coding.

Well, there's a REALLY long thread here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=451145

There's also an entire site devoted to coding that provides the necessary information in a much more concise and organized manner but it's banned on these boards, mods claim because that site has spammed them before, though it could also be because they're offering knowledge for free that vendors on these boards charge for, and of course those vendors pay fees to these boards. But see what comes up at the top if you Google "BMW Coding".
