That looks like a good maintenance item to keep an eye on.

Valve cover gasket got changed on my car recently as well with ~22k miles on odometer and 2.5yrs in service

That's kinda' what I was looking to find out, if this is a weak point on the engine.

Yes, personally I think it should go on the list of things to look out for, along with injectors and HPFP.

Shouldn't be news though... these things were known from the N54 335 days

But for those of us new to BMW (or "re-new") this stuff is good to know. The last BMW I owned was a 1975 2002. Bought it used in '76 and drove it for one year. One of the biggest POS I've ever owned. Hopefully, things have changed in the last 35+ years!

Been reading all too much about these issues as well from here since I've gotten the car.

1.5 years and 15,000 miles later, just got a call from the dealer saying that a few injectors are being replaced.

The rear butterfly flap/waste gate/heatshield/???? rattle has also gotten out of hand and am having that looked at as well (also a common n54 problem). My friend says my car sounds like a Honda when starting.

Ok this is starting to become an ordeal. SA called me on Tuesday, told me vacuum leak from cracked valve cover, so they replaced it. Went there yesterday to pick the car up. I start it up, CEL again. Went back in and read the code, system too lean again. Had to leave with a different loaner. SA just called me this morning and told me that some injectors had to be replaced. So I'm going to go get the car this afternoon. This is the 2nd time injectors had to be replaced. Last time they replaced 3 of them.

Cedar if it's waste gate rattle I think you should proceed with caution. I've read a "fix" for this was to have the computer always keep the WG a little bit open. My understanding (possibly wrong) is this reduces power and worsens engine response.

Make sure you get full details before any changes. I would personally take a rattle over less power!!!

OP have them check the HPFP also while it's there. My car went in for injectors and left with the HPFP as well also so there is some linkage between those two.

Also, if possible push for all injectors replaced not just a few. I think this part was revised several times so get em all updated.
