Any Way to Keep the Dash Light ON w/o Auto-Headlights?

I drive through a parking garage on a daily basis and I notice that the dash isn't visible indoors so I was wondering if there is a way to leave it on w/o turning the headlights to auto? I just never liked leaving the headlights on auto and prefer to turn it on myself so if I could avoid that, I would. Any suggestions or anyone else in the same position?

The dash will also brighten if you turn the headlights to "on".

I realize this doesn't solve your problem at all, but officially it is an alternative to "auto".

What's the problem you have with auto headlights? I think auto headlights are a nice safety feature so that you have maximum visibility when you need it. And then your dashboard will be visible in the garage. So it's good all around!

I'm sure some auto electrical shop can install a switch for you to accomplish this. Give it a try. I never had an issue when I drove my Z4

In Canada we do have the daylight running light law. I too like my dash light on when I drive our DD. I can just turn my switch to the fog lights and then I have the dash lights on as well.

I just don't like it turning on and off at whenever it deems it "dark". Sometimes it happens when I pass by a tree shade or a short tunnel or if it is simply cloudy, it's just a little pet peeve really. Plus I prefer driving with only the DRLs/AE on (I just think it looks much better in both daylight and nighttime) unless it is really dark then I turn the headlights on manually.

I honestly don't know why BMW didn't just leave it on all the time, it looks so much better with the dash on with its glowing red tach. My Lexus IS stays on the whole time and there really isn't a bad thing/problem about it staying on that I could think of.

Ahh, thanks for the tip. I'll inquire around town on who might be able to do it. Really wish BMW just has this option on their iDrive like the DRL.

I am sure it could be coded by some wizzard.

I also would like it. In "auto" xenon lights up when putting the car in the garage just to be turned off after a few seconds.........annoying like the ipad's wordsuggestions.....
