Z4 35is does pretty well for itself

I believe 4.3 is the best number for the 35is so far. Interestingly enough, this puts it in some pretty good company. It's actually rather amusing that the 35is can match the performance of a 2011 M6. It's also interesting that the 35is is only 0.2 sec away from the 2011 Corvette that has nearly 100 HP advantage, and matches several of the AMG cars that have 150-220 HP advantage. Lesson Learned: excess weight = bad.

Here's a partial list I compiled from Zero to Sixty Times.com:

Hmm...this could fan the V8-Z4M flames a bit, could it not?

I'd be tempted, too. Especially since the S65, a spectacularly good engine, is going away soon. And how hard could be it to drop a few of the remaining S65's into the Z4 body? I know Scott says it won't be a V8, but it seems to fit well with the limited production nature of the M brand and I'm sure BMW M would love to take a few sales away from AMG.

So a V8 Z4 is possible, even reasonable, but not likely. Based on Scott's remarks, the bean-counters are calling the shots. Back in 2002 when I bought my M5 (has it really been almost a decade ago?) it was about passion. Now, it's all about marketing and money.

That kit includes an extension for the ćoolant' radiator, not the oil cooler. I dont believe
it is available for the Z4 models.

So wait...people buy BMWs and look at 0-60 times...??

I thought 0-60 went away when we left high school... or when we drove non-mustangs and camaros and such...

FYI, Zero to 60 times has published 4.3 as the 0-60 time for the 35is, not the 35i.
The 0-60 Times you published are from one test on a 2011 35is. Since the 35i best test was 4.3, then the 35is best must be at least 4.2.

That 4.8 for the 35i was just the results from ONE test. It was Road and Track that ran that 4.8.

If you read the Motor Trend article, you see that the 35i was tested at 4.3 by Motor Trend.

Not everyone is going to get the same test result on every run. So, what we can conclude is that the BEST time for the 35i is 4.3. The AVERAGE time is more in the mid 4's probably.

That means the 35is time of 4.3 that we see posted in THIS thread is not and cannot be it's overall best time, since it's already been proven that the 35i can run a 4.3 and it has about 30 less HP.

If Motor Trend had taken the 35is out and tested it on the same day (meaning with the exact same conditions) as the 35i, then it would have run better than 4.3.

There is NO WAY the 35i would do 0-60 in 4.3.

BMW states 5.2 DCT/5.3 manual, and car magazines have managed 4.8/4.9 usually with a drag strip-like rolling start.

True.

The important thing is not to compare one car's BEST time to another cars time that may not have been it's best run, or to what the Mfg says is it's 0-60 time should be.

We should compare apples to apples.

The fact Motor Trend ran a 4.3 on that day with the 35i is substantiated with the 1/4 mile time of 12.9, which is in line with the 0-60 time.

They tested several other cars under the same conditions that day. Some times were better than other test results from other magazines, some were slower. Some times were slower than the Mfg published time, some faster. As we know, no car is ever going to run an identical time every run.

BMW's "claim" is 5.0 with the DCT, not 5.2. 5.0 would makes sense if the 35i actually had only 300HP.

You'd have to take that accusation up with Motor Trend. I'm just reporting published facts to help the OP make an informed decision.

Read Post #54. I attached the link.

Have you ever used the launch control - I have twice and it was wicked fast. Then again, I remember the days when 0-60mph in 8 seconds was smoking!

First new car, yes.

The next year Mazda came out with varying trim levels on the RX7, much like the choices the customer has on the Z4 with trying to determine if the next level up was worth the $$ (there, we're still on topic)
