Dealer lied about satellite radio prep. Now I need to pay for it.

Hello everyone,

I discovered *after* the paperwork had been signed that the dealer verbally lied about the vehicle not having satellite radio. They indicated, in person, that it did. I glanced over the documentation and didn't notice it was satellite prep, rather than satellite radio. Now, he wants me to spend $500 through BMW to get the radio installed. UGH.

I've been told you can get this installed much cheaper at non-OEM locations. Any idea how I can handle?

I'm going through the same thing. I bought a used Z4 last April, and was told the radio was set up for Satellite Radio. I took delivery of the car, and when I attempted to move my Sirius account to the Z I found the same as you. It is wired for the radio, but no module installed. My Z is a 2009 model, and very little to no documentation exists on this car. I searched forums and found where the location of where the module mounts. In the trunk, left side under the storage tray. Once the tray is removed I found two plugs, one for power and signal, and antenna. I did buy a module through a used auto part store for a 2009 Z, and installed it today. I'll have to have the car programmed and the radio should show the icon for Sat radio, hopefully.

I’m so underwhelmed by Sirius that I never renew after the one year free service. I rely on an attached iPhone which has my entire music library uploaded to it or Pandora which works just as well and has a better music selection than Sirius. I wouldn’t pay extra for Sirius.

My former 2012 135i M Sport came with everything but SAT radio. I bought the SAT module from a reputable online BMW parts supplier for pretty cheap and then had Bimmertech code it for me. Worked like a charm and cost me under $300, if I remember correctly.

Sirius sounds pretty bad compared to a phone plugged in. The sound quality is horrible.

Do yourself a favor and spend the money on a music subscription on your phone and use it.

Because the bitrate is higher streaming over the Internet, SiriusXM through the app via aux or BT will sound great. But for me, as irritated by bad sound quality as I get, I choose convenience of a module every time.
