İ think The best tune is
Manhart
Stage 3 (420hp, 560Nm)*
-MHR Software Remapping
-MHR Downpipes
-MHR Intercooler
-MHR Carbon Fiber Airbox incl.modified piping

İts less expensive and same power.

If E89 Z4M existed with this engine, I think people would buy it...

It is going to cost $$$ OP, and I have not seen it done.
Nick, aren't the s54 and s65 shy on the torque side? The M3 power was not that impressive, not as much pull on open throttle compared to n54 when driving back to back. IMO there's more usable powerband for n54.

I would prefer a full bolt on, rb or Vargas turbo , Cobb protune, and "stealing from m3 suspension "set up, quaife LSD, big brake upgrade would be a great daily driver and track car IMO.

Agreed.. modified N54 is really nice

Would be interesting to price out this hypothetical S65 swap vs. FBO/turbo swap/supporting mods N54 vs. buy C6 Z06

I love the BMWs but at some point I always ask myself if another platform is better starting point

Very true. I'm a die hard BMW guy, but the newest Vette is the best bang for the buck. Great looks and more power than anything in that price range. The reviews are all outstanding!

For OP, depending on hp, tq, track handling, daily driver goals there seem to be easier routes than an engine swap. A modified N54 with cooling, suspension, LSD, and brakes, or even C6,C7 Vette would be easier on the wallet, and piece of mind.

If you are going to pour that much into the N54, you'd have to consider supercharging an S65. An S/C'd S65 would drop all but the most insanely modded N54s, but even then the N54s would not sound as good as the S65.

There is a caterham superlight on sale here in San Diego for about $38k. That would also be a good choice for an open air track toy. (I'm so tempted!)

Not sure, but the SC for S65 should be more $ than bolt ons for N54. Active Autowerke starts at $10,800 just for the kit. Down pipes, fmic, charge pip, oil cooler, occ are all pretty affordable.

The other mods I mentioned were for better handling, regardless of engine. Also I'm not too sure there is enough clearance between the motor and hood for a SC.

Can some one verify roughly what fbo would cost?

That does sound tempting! Would you pull the trigger? I would love a dedicated track car, in addition to the Z.

Not this year, since I only did 6 events in 2013.

Lucky you. I only had 3 events before my '13 was totaled by an old man. I'm itching for the '14 season. I'm actually signed up for 2-day M school to pick up a few tricks.
