eBay 3D style rear spoiler - installation advice?
I purchased an eBay 3D style rear spoiler and am looking for some advice. The fitment in the center of the spoiler is excellent, but the sides do not lay flat to the trunk. I do not expect perfection but am hoping I can use 3M tape and the summer sun (or heat gun) to get the sides to lay flat against the trunk. Anyone have experience with this? My main concern is that the spoiler is made of FRP (painted to match the body) and is not very flexible. Also, even if I manage to get the sides to tape down, I'm concerned that over time they will lift up again. I'm looking for advice from someone who has actually done this. If you think this is a lost cause, please tell me. I have the option to return the spoiler at zero cost to me. Thanks!

Well, in case anyone wants to know, I was able to use 3M tape to tape down the sides. I bought 3M tape separately because the stuff they send is not true 3M. The left side started lifting up after a day. I took a hair dryer and warmed it up and pressed down, held it there until it felt cool. I did that about 3 times. So far it seems like the left is staying down. The right had less of a gap and is showing no issues so far. I'll post an update if anything changes. Overall, these eBay 3D-style spoilers seem alright for the money, but it's not perfectly smooth and the fitment requires some adjustment. Satisfied so far and plan to keep it. Our rear-ends are a bit small. The extra wing brings some balance to the rear and flows well with the rest of the body.

Thanks. Like most fiber reinforced plastic (FRP), you can see in certain lighting that the parts seem to have a slight wave to them. Lighter colors like silver and white will be a lot more forgiving. Darker colors seem to show the imperfection most. The paint job was ok, not great. There was one small blob of paint I noticed on the top of the spoiler. It came painted to match.

Thanks. I plan to leave my z4 unmolested for a while. When it comes time for tire replacement, might take the opportunity to get some different wheels. But overall, this is one of the few cars I own where I'm pretty happy with how it came from the factory.

LOL... so far, that's all I've done. This car is setup so nicely from the factory, I only look forward to non-runflats in about 20K more miles...

Looks good!
I bought the same one in carbon fiber last year, but ended up wrapping it to match my car...
