Nothing more than the proverbial "Italian Tune Up"
Too bad they guy got nailed for another victimless crime Wonder what it costs Maine per hour to maintain that speed trap with a cop in the air and on the ground over a road that has little to no traffic |

This is why we need the Autobahn in the US in certain places. I know that will never happen, though. Long stretches of road with no houses or businesses around; you should be able to drive at a high rate of speed. It's pretty ridiculous that we can't.

Yeah I use Waze. Cops are everywhere there. I am just like that guy, doing 75-80 99% of the time and then on some open stretch take it to 130-140 for a short period. Don't really see a crime here. I just came from Italy, many doing 140 where there is safe and no speed cams, I think 85 is the speed limit

Would have to upgrade the crazy lax vehicle inspections first. How would you feel having a clapped out 88 Dodge Caravan running different sized tires on all four corners, left rear bouncing because the shock is farked and $4 brake pads at all four corners coming up behind you at 110 MPH?

Wow! They are still flying that plane…
I got caught in the late eighties the same way, not as fast as that (less than 100 if I remember correctly) in my grey-import 745i. I-95 was (still is?) a really good road, great surface, relatively straight with limited access. On another occasion, I was on my R100RS quite early in the day in summer, so it was sunny (and again no traffic): I remember thinking "the bike is going really smoothly today" and looked down to see I was going well over 100… Ooops! Fortunately, no police about. I did slow down quite a bit however, not wanting to push my luck. |

It's only victimless crime until somebody gets killed.

Ironically, yesterday I was going 140 on an empty highway stretch before deciding it's time to slow down. And, what do you know, I slow down to 90, pass an on-ramp where a cop was merging and lights were instantly lit. A ticket!
I'm very glad I wasn't caught 10 seconds earlier or I would've likely been the subject of a similar post. |

80 and 85 mph sections common here in Texas, the problem is not the roads.
The lack of driver training or the ability of drivers to actually drive the speed limit makes them rolling roadblocks (I'm thinking of drivers on 130 in Austin Tx loop). Left lane means nothing. Most drivers have no clue, even with signs posted about left for passing only |

I once went over the double of speed limit right in front of the state cop that was traveling next to me. He pulled me over with extremely surprised face, and I told him that posted speed limit is a joke, he just agreed and let me go without even checking my license

I did 150 on Southern New Mexico - El Paso desert area for about 20 minutes couple of years back on my Z4. Did 130-140s multiple times for short bursts. But I always choose areas where nearby towns are 60-70 miles apart where Cops usually dont stay.
Fun, but everything around moves super crazy at those speeds and we cant dare our ourselves to carry that speed for more than few minutes.. Its exciting as long as you are not caught |

The problem with a well-setup 745i is that you can be going well into triple digits and think you're doing 75mph. Those things, especially when tuned, pull like a walrus. Filippo
