Snap-in adapter

Hello all,

I'm about to pull the trigger on a 2011 Z4. The car has iDrive, and iPod integration (the cable), but does not have the snap in adapter or the BMW apps.

Can the snap in adapter for an iPhone be installed after the fact? The sales guy is saying that it must be installed from the factory.

Thanks!

Smart phone integration is a factory option, but the snap in adaptor is something you buy at your dealer depending on which phone you have. I'll try to get a pic of mine tomm to make it clearer.

So you buy the adapter, but still connect via bluetooth, or does the adapter "hard wire" the iPhone in?

Basic breakdown;

Bluetooth:
-make calls
-sync phone book
-stream music to your car

USB cable:
-play music from your iPod/iPhone
-connected drive

Snap in adaptor:
-play music/videos from iPhone
-also a better interface (iPod out)

Your phone should be paired with you car if it's plugged in via USB or the snap in adaptor.

Also there are two different adaptors, media and music, your going to want the media one if you get apps and want to watch video.

^^ Thanks man!

I also just wanted to make sure I got it. All the functions you listed above work as you described even though I would NOT have the smart phone integration installed from the factory?

Thanks again man!

Right, but the items you listed above do not take advantage of the apps, right?
