Windshield foam/sponge thing

This is found on my driver's side bottom corner of the windshield,
a foam/spongy strip that's sticking out and looks odd and out of place...do you guys have it sticking out? Should I just use something soft to stick it into the recesses?

Your photography skills have no parallel (hint: sarcasm.) Perhaps a better snap so that I could see the referenced strip ? (advise: use flash)
