Z4 Radar Detector Hard Wire Install

Today I installed a Beltronics GPS Radar Detector with the hard wire kit and wired it into the map light area. Picture below show install. Hopefully avoid the ticket I got several months ago. Got wiring info from a thread on the 3 serices forum. Cheers
Ross

Does it block the passenger side sun visor?

About blocking the visor movement - you can fit it so that the visor isn't restricted but it has to be set right. Also, I ordered a visor clip but think it is tucked out of way better where it is. Really want it to be unobtrusive - too bad they don't offer an ibus type interface like some folks did a while back with the Valentine1 to the older BMWs.

I followed ramiles directions and everything went smoothly. Well except when I unplugged the connector which initiated the call to BMW Assist because it thought there was an airbag problem. Other than that it took all of 20 minutes to do and was very easy.

Ramiles. Why you went with this option/setup rather than a simple plug & play Valentine 1 Radar Detector?
Would Beltronics detect optical speed cameras?

I use a escort 9500ix detector. Great detector, paid for itself a few times over already you can get the hardwire cable and route it under the dash and tap into the 12v in the passenger side. Pretty easy and you don't have to be a super handy man. You should be able to do this for any dector that has hardwire cable like the V1.

I went with this radar unit because, yes, it had GPS and alterted to stop light cameras. However - after installing haven't worried about updating the data base - there are still only a few cameras in my area. The focus of starting this forum thread was to show the hard wiring stuff - use whatever unit you like - hopefully this will help with your wiring.

Thanks Ramiles... I think I misunderstood your photos... I thought the adapter like thing you showed in photo#1 came with your Radar detector... My mistake...

Was able to hook mine up but could not find a swtiched source, only 12V. Used the 12V but will need to turn it off at the radar switch.

Find the green/white wire on the right side connector. It's the only good switched source I found .

I dont have the green white wire. I checked three times. I tried to hook one up that seemed like switch power and it tripped the restraint warning which wouldn't allow the car to start. I had a black and green wire. Maybe we have a different optioned car and harness. I'll take a pick on sat.

When I did the original hard wire install (I'm the original poster) I did not have any schematics - just probed the wires until I could find one that was hot (powered) at the right time (ignition on). For both my Zippster and my wifes's 335 that appropriate power line was the green/white line. Maybe the wires are different for different models or configurations. Recommend you check out the voltages and use the one that works best.

Hi, The thick red one in the right (black connector) which I think feeds the main light. Thanks.
