C'mon. Your son couldn't have detailed his own car?
Haha, or dad? I'm due for a full detail on the wife's lease and it goes back in a year. No reason to leave it all swirly for that year though.

What do you pay for a full detail and buff/wax?

It's incredibly expensive here, over $300.

That is actually dirt cheap. An average one-step polish topped with a sealant or wax is cost you $450 for a GOOD detailer.

To be fair, why is that expensive? I spend six to eight hours on a wash, clay, correction, glaze and sealant application and just the general fluff of cleaning the wheel wells, polishing the exhaust tips, etc. a good sealant is $50-80 and other materials used are another $20 or more, so for $300, you'd be getting labor at around $30/hr, which seems more than reasonable. I certainly charge more for my actual consulting fee.

You pay $125/hr for someone to change your oil or brake pads, even if it's "free" maintenance.

And good auto detailers make six figures without too much trouble in nearly any city, so yes, $30/hr is a very good deal.

Should have left it stock. Now it just looks boy racer which must be awkward for the poor kid since he's not into cars.

Yeah, that's a good point. 2.0L Q5's are the heart of the street racing scene. Poor kid's gonna be constantly harassed.
