Question 335i coupe to Z4 35i ???

I am a happy owner of 335i coupe but only complain is the small moon roof.

Always I want open airing and I consider a new car, Z4 35i.
Now, I am close to the final decision for one year.

My last worry is the engine. 335i and z4 35i has same engine and z4 is heavier than 335i.

If I don't feel difference about power and steering between 335i and Z4, I should think twice very seriously. After that, I may move to another car company like Porsche but still I don't like Porsche's out dated design.

Anyway, I did Z4 test drive but the course was too short and I couldn't push hard the dealer's car. So.... new Z4 is a great car but still, I am not sure to buy a Z4.

Please advise me

Are you asking for us to convince you?
Look you already have a bmw and part of the family.

You said you wanted a convertible, well, every series has a convertible model.

So, do you like the styling of the z4? Would the z4 having only 2 seats a problem for you?

Like you said, power is the same. Maybe wait for the Z4 35is?

Same engine and power, but he technological advances of the DCT make the Z4 35i faster than a 335i that has either the 6 speed manual or the Steptronic. To the tune of about .5 - .7 seconds faster 0-60 mph.

I own both and the Z is a lot more fun.

It feels as fast as my 335i and mine is Dinanized.

You going to lose a lot of storage space. But the fun factor is awesome.

DCT transmission makes the car more crisp than the 335i

Z feels lighter than the 335i. Are you sure about the weight????

Structure is not quite as stiff as the 335i but who cares.

The new iDrive is light years ahead of the 07 model

The Z is very difficult to drive without smiling.

If I had to go with one, I'd go with the Z. Just don't expect a family car.

Porsche's out dated design??? I have a Z4 and a Porsche 911 S. Compared to the Z4, the 911 S is more powerful, weighs less, handles better, and is much faster. What else do you want? The only down side is that it costs $40,000 more than a Z4.

Agree with hedron, the porsche design is outdated. Boxster, 911, cayman,..... all look like the same for me. Yes, I do agree for engine performance and handling, Porsche excels.

Z4 is different breed compare to 3, 5 and 7 series.

BMW NA only sold around 350 Z4 in 2009 compared to over 90K 3 series. There are more Ferraris and Lambos on the road than the new Z4!

Get the 35is. It has more power than the 335i, if you are really worried about this.

I still have my 335i and I can tell you from testdriving the Z4 35i that it feels at least as fast, if not even faster (maybe because of the more racecar like sound in the Z4, who knows).

After the testdrive it was clear to me that I would not miss my 335i (well except for the fantastic active steering maybe).

If you don't need the space of the 3 series, get the Z. You won't regret it.

WOW! I can't believe this. BMW-z4 only sold for 350 cars?

I just wonder the word that you used NA, is this meaning for North America? I mean I just can't belive it.

If I buy Z, it would be really rare!

I have a "hot" wife and two kids. I looked practicality in the face and told it to F-off. I bought the Z4 over a M3 sedan and X6 50i.

For $40k more it damn well better be all those things. The current 911 and Boxster design has been around a long time though, so some believe it is outdated or tired. This is an opinion, so not something that can really be debated. One either believes it looks outdated or they don't, and I would venture that there is nothing one side is going to do that will change the other's opinion.

Incorrect. They sold 3500 new Z4s in '09.

I guess I should have read the whole thread before posting. It was just corrected above my post.
